Future Collectible? 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Hellcat has been described as a “nuclear reactor on wheels” because of its sheer wide-open performance. Launched in 2015 on the updated Dodge Challenger, it comes equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi engine rated at 707 hp and 650 lb.-ft of torque. A stock Hellcat can do the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 125 mph. This first-year edition is finished in Sublime Green paint (you can see it for miles) and has just 4,600 miles on the odometer as the seller has six other cars. Located in Miami, Florida, this “future collectible” is available here on eBay for $58,500 (Buy It Now).

Dodge’s use of the Challenger nameplate goes back to its pony car days of 1970-74. After a brief absence, the nameplate reappeared on a Japanese import from 1978-83. Another 25 years would pass before it returned as a companion to the 4-door Dodge Charger. The Challenger is still in production, although it’s received a facelift at least once. The Chrysler marketing gurus concluded there was a need for a flying car, so since Jetson’s technology wasn’t quite yet ready, the SRT Hellcat debuted in 2015.

To help accommodate the great speed of the Hellcat’s Hemi, the inner driving light on the left front was removed to allow air to get into the engine, resulting in more torque. The SRT Hellcat is equipped with two separate key fobs: one limits the engine to 500 hp for more civilized driving while the other lets it all hang out. The seller of this glow-in-the-dark Dodge is not its original owner, having acquired it with just 2,600 miles. But since his entourage consists of seven vehicles, he only takes it out on weekends. He’s moving out of state, so the herd must be thinned before packing up.

The body, paint, and interior look nearly perfect, though the seller says there’s a tiny scratch on the edge of the passenger door if you look hard enough. The interior looks quite inviting, but certainly not somewhere you’d want to strap in a pile of kids as this clearly is a serious adult toy. The seller mentions that all recalls have been done, so is that an indication of quality control issues at Chrysler? But whatever service the car needed at less than 5,000 miles, we’re told it was recently done.

These were not cheap cars when new in 2015 and certainly not now. The seller’s window sticker shows an MSRP of $58,000 and this one left the lot at $66,000. So don’t expect to find a lot of depreciation when trying to locate one of these cars. We understand that only 724 were built with the 8-speed automatic transmission and painted Sublime Green. The seller has kindly provided a walk-around video for your perusal.

Nice low mileage example that will no doubt go up in price.

Shame no manual transmission offered. 😕

A manual trans has been available on Hellcat Challengers since the model’s conception. A manual trans is not offered in Hellcat Chargers, though. I thought I was in the market for a manual trans Hellcat Challenger myself. However, upon driving a 48k mile 6 speed manual trans equipped 2012 Challenger SRT8, I decided it was all the power I needed. The $24k price sealed it for me!

I think they did offer a 6 speed manual.
I recall watching a video with the Dodge engineer who was in charge of the Hellcat project and he said the automatic was definitely the right choice of the two because the auto shifted much faster than you could shift a manual transmission

I think it is actually 1,327 that were built with the automatic transmission in this color. In any event, I like (love) the Sublime Green, and wish that Dodge will bring this color option back on the Hellcats.

why is a 2015 on Barn Finds? Too many cars like this…and show cars. You need to weed them out and only show what your site is supposed to be about.

“Barnfinds” is just the name of the website. True, the writers on Barn-Finds mainly focus on actual barn finds, but it’s like Bring-A-Trailer. At least half, if nothing the majority of cars sold on there don’t need to be picked up with a trailer.

After a YouTube session or six I marvel that there are any of these left! Far too many have been totaled, stolen, or abused by idiots doing burnouts and donut-ing into curbs or crowds of onlookers.
Great cars that will hold their value nicely if properly cared for. Not too much $$$, but probably s bit too soon.

“…updated Dodge Challenger…”? Really? Seems like the same boring, bloated body that came out in 2008. After the Germans got rid of them, the Italians took over, and now, the French. What’s next? Sale to the Albanians?

“Only 724” Sublime with automatic. There were 1,327 total production in Sublime with 593 manuals and 724 automatics. Sublime was the most produced color in 2015 with the most automatics of all colors.
