Highly Original: 1967 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible

Ah, memories. My cousin Greg bought my Uncle Buster’s ’67 Pontiac Catalina back in the early 70’s. I have a lot of memories of being in that big green boat with my cousin behind the wheel and me and my twin brother along for the ride, radio blasting. I remember its comfortable black interior, that wide, curved dash, the partially clear steering wheel, and how smooth it floated down the highway. We had a lot of fun times with that 4-door Catalina (which usually involved Miller High Life 7-ounce Ponies). Just imagine the kind of mischief we could’ve gotten into if Cousin Greg had tooled around little Amelia, Virginia in this ’67 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible (equipped with a 428 under the hood). Super-Spotter, T.J., sent us this highly-original survivor that is located in Fort Myers, Florida. It is listed for sale here on craigslist with an asking price of $54,900.

Being sold through Autobahn Vault, who describes themselves as a boutique collector car dealership that prides itself on “curating exceptional automobiles – not simply selling them,” interested parties can see this exceptional Bonnie up close by appointment only. No exceptions. The seller describes the car –  one of only 8,902 Bonneville Convertible produced for the ’67 model year – as being “highly original” but doesn’t give a lot of details and particulars. I’m assuming its paint is original, and the Cameo Ivory paint (which there is a lot of) presents very nicely. I’m not spotting any rust or bumps and bruises and the chrome, glass, trim, and those iconic 8-lug wheels look nice. Styling wise, it was the last year of the stacked dual headlamps that had started in 1963 and Pontiac’s familiar split grille and Wide-Track stance are still present. The Bonnie also has a matching power white convertible top as well.
The gorgeous black interior is pure ’60’s Pontiac: luxurious and with just the right amount of sportiness. Overall, it’s extremely well preserved and was ordered with Strato bucket seats with a center console, factory air conditioning, automatic climate control, power windows, power steering, power brakes, an AM/FM stereo radio with tape player, and more. This is one well-equipped Bonneville.
Under that aircraft carrier-worthy front hood is the Bonneville’s optional factory 428-cubic-inch High Output V8. It’s original, has 84,000 miles on it, and is paired with a Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. The seller states, “It starts easily, drives beautifully, and is ready to be enjoyed immediately.” Along with the Grand Prix Convertible, this Bonneville drop top was at the top of the Pontiac price list in 1967. With the optional 428 high performance engine, air conditioning, and other luxury options and interior upgrades, I’d like to know what the final sticker price was for this Bonnie. Of the 782,734 Pontiacs produced for the 1967 model year, only 1.1% of them were Bonneville Convertibles. This is the nicest one we’ve ever featured here on Barn Finds and might be one of the best preserved survivors on the planet. What a wonderful Wide Track!

    The first buyer checked all the right boxes on the order form for this one. I’d find the correct air cleaner assembly and leave the rest alone.
