Hot Rod or Rat Rod? 1930 Ford Model A Roadster

This 1930 Ford Model A hot rod looks like a fun ride! With a bit of room to improve on what’s here, this can be a drive-it-as-you-tinker car once it’s safe to drive. It can be found for sale here on Craigslist with an asking price of $5,500. Located in Douglas, Arizona, the seller says it runs and drives but is not road worthy. With a little finish work and TLC, this car will be someone’s pride and joy. Take a look and see if this is your dream ride.

Like a good hot rod, with no hood or sides, the engine is out in the open for everyone to see. It is a Ford Flathead from 1952 and has been completely rebuilt. The engine is topped with three Edelbrock carburetors and runs cool thanks to an aluminum radiator. The engine is backed by a top-loader transmission from a ’39 Ford that transfers power to a 1985 Ford Ranger rear end.

You can see there isn’t much of a floor. If it was mine, I’d at least put a trans tunnel in with some sort of protection from a catastrophic driveline failure. You can see a mess of wiring under the dash that will probably need to be cleaned up. The gauges look good and overall, it would probably be a fun car to drive.

This car has a great look. The body hasn’t been channeled and still sits high on the frame, which I don’t mind. A few finishing touches and this will be a really nice car. What would you do to finish this one?

Paint, wiring, a floor and some gas to get it down the road. Nice basic build at a reasonable price.

I always loved the looks of a flat head V-8 ! Especially with 3 Stromberg 97’s on it. Add Offenhouser heads & intake, and they just look so beautiful!

Too nice for a rat rod. Save junkers for the rat rod build. This one like Bobhess says the basics and enjoy it.

I liked it but I’m to late already!! I would have gladly paid the price for this!! The motor rebuild looks good and clean ant the floors are an easy fix!! The wiring on the other hand might take a while to figure out that rat nest but a good project at a decent price!! To late again!!!

Manifold could be Edelbrock but the carbs look like the 97s. Had to build my own wiring harness on my ’32 as a kid. Lights and engine and you’re done, except for the fused wire direct from the battery to the radio mounted on the package shelf so you have tunes while you are making out… hopefully.

Carbs are stromberg 94s. The 97s were a much simpler carb, but very good.

Thanks for the comments on the carbs. I wondered myself about the Edelbrock description. Wiring? Just take one wire at a time from where it is supposed to start and to where it is needing to go. How hard can that be with a non-computerized, non-sensored setup? I don’t even remember a fuse box on my ’36. A nice, nostalgic ride.
