In 1991, GMC dabbled in the performance pickup truck market, somewhat like Dodge had done earlier with its Lil Red Express. A one-year-only model, the Syclone’s speed capabilities were compared to that of the Chevy Corvette and the Ferrari 348 ts. As such, it was the fastest production truck on the market that year and one of the quickest vehicles overall. This Syclone had been sitting for several years and is going to need both mechanical and cosmetic attention. Located in Trenton, New Jersey, the pickup is available with no reserve here on eBay where the current bid is $17,100.
General Motors partnered with Production Automotive Services (PAS) to cook up the Syclone, which did not have a derivative in the Chevrolet camp. The truck would spawn other models like the 1992-93 GMC Typhoon SUV and the 1992 GMC Sonoma GT (a sport package with the looks of a Syclone but without the performance of its predecessor). Although plans were afoot to build a second year of the Syclone, they were scrapped later in the year after nearly 3,000 had been built. These pickups came in any color you wanted as long as it was black.
Syclones had a 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission and an AWD driveline and 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. At 76,000 miles, the seller’s truck has been dormant for some time and will drive short distances like around the lot. It will need a tune-up and a flush of the gas tank to be viable again. Also, the tires are going to need replacing as well.
The body is good, but the clear coat is peeling in places. But at least there is no rust, and no attention should be needed in the passenger compartment. The seller indicates that the pickup has headers with a three-inch exhaust system which can be put back to stock if desired. The truck has a clean Carfax as well as an Experion AutoCheck Vehicle History Report which was secured at his/her expense. These trucks were rare when new and only turn up occasionally 30 years after they were produced. Hagerty indicates that $20,000 is the target amount for one of these pickups in Good Condition.
The aftermarket performance mods hurt the value of these. Looks like a truck that was abused and put away when things went south mechanically. No filter over the turbo inlet, yea it think I would pass on that one. Fastest vehicle in 1991 though. They are really special in my book. I rode along in one back in the 90’s and that was the fastest vehicle I was ever in for a long time.

I was looking for a new truck in 91. If these had been an extra cab, I would have one instead of my 91 extra cab Toyota with 494,000 miles on it.
