This 1971 Datsun 240Z has been languishing in a Texas junkyard for the past 15 years before being extricated and posted on eBay for slae. This is a desirable early model that retains a motor and transmission but no word on whether they still match. The body shows minimal signs of rust but does have some of the typical hallmarks of rough handling that comes with the territory of a junkyard. Find the 240Z here on eBay with one bid to $500 and no reserve.
The Datsun is now free of the weeds and brambles it previously rested in, and we can see there’s a fairly complete car underneath. The Texas location undoubtedly helped keep the Datsun better preserved than if it ended up in a junkyard in the Pacific Northwest or northeast, but there’s still rust to content with in the passenger-side floorboard and hood. The seller says otherwise, it’s just ugly surface rust to contend with. The tires will hold air long enough to be loaded and an original key is also included.
The interior is quite the mess, as these cars tend to still be picked through even if good enough to return to the roads. 15 years provided plenty of time for parts seekers to pull off what they need, but the seller doesn’t detail what’s gone missing. When I rescued my 1986 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 from a junkyard, I was immediately faced with tracking down the NLA radiator, exhaust, gas tank, and more. I suspect the next owner of this 240Z will find a similar battle ahead of themselves, but fortunately, the enthusiast network for these cars is quite strong. I’d plan on a full interior restoration, even if the outside isn’t so bad.
And if you’re in need of parts cars, remember we have the Barn Finds Exclusive listing for four excellent Z-car restoration and/or parts vehicle candidates from the large Georgia collection we’re helping to wind down. That includes this excellent 260Z which is solid all the way around and has an original interior and motor/transmission still attached. We love seeing good cars rescued from the junkyard – do you know of any classics rotting away that should be returned to the roads?
Isn’t that another one in red next to it?
Would love to tour that junkyard!!!
Cheers

Forget that Z, I want what the (I think) Poncho behind it!
$1575.00 with 3 days to go. Will it clear $2500???
$2,500 would be a steal for this 240 if the engine has any life left in it. Hell, even if the engine is totally shot but the block is good, you could likely do a full rebuild and still be at least even on $$. These trade in the 20’s around here in good to great condition (and climbing for original manual cars) but it’s usually the rust that gets you and your budget, not mechanicals. They don’t call them Rotsuns for nothing. If that one floor pan is all that’s needed on the rust side, you’re golden.
So what is a Texas Blue Title? Is that something relating to a car coming out of a junkyard?
$2125.00 with 9 hour’s to go..
