The Javelin was American Motors’ entry in the hot “pony car” market. Launched in 1968, production would span two generations over several years, concluding in 1974. Sales were decent considering the AMC was usually the underdog, but the Javelin did occasionally outsell the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Barracuda. The seller, located in Mission, British Columbia, has a “restore it while you drive it” kind of car, available here on craigslist for $8,600 (USD or CDN?). Kudos for the tip, “Curvette”!

Second-generation Javelins arrived in 1971, and changes to the ’73 meant adding hefty front bumper guards to meet new Federal safety mandates. Only two models were offered, the “regular” Javelin and the AMX, the performance version. Out of 30,700 Javelins built in 1973, about half of them were equipped with a 304 cubic inch V8. That’s what we’re told is under the hood of the seller’s car (no pics).

The seller believes this AMC is a good candidate to restore. It drives well, and the interior is pretty good (only one photo). The body looks okay, but the bronze paint is past its prime. This Javelin has a full vinyl roof covering (black) that runs all the way down the “fast” in the fastback design. An interesting but odd approach.

There’s no mention of the mileage of this car, but it does have an automatic transmission (AMC sourced them from Borg-Warner through 1971, then shifted to Chrysler). The seller indicates a willingness to discuss a partial trade but does not say what may float his/her boat. The Javelin is overshadowed by its Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler counterparts these days, so would a restored edition be a breath of fresh air?

Dixon…putting “Kenosha” in the title, is surely irresistible bait 🎣 for Howard
Spring for some real Cragers
It’s hard to find a nice set of vintage Cragars, what’s in production today is different. I’d rather have vintage knockoff than what they are selling nowadays.
