Long List of New Parts: 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230

Using the W110 chassis, the 230 had an inline-6 engine whereas the 200 and 200D (diesel) employed 4-cylinder power. This survivor-quality sedan is a solid sedan having recently had a host of mechanical work done. It carries just a bit of patina with the paint, perhaps just enough to leave it alone and enjoy the automobile the way it is. Located in Santa Monica, this Mercedes is available here on craigslist and can come home with a new owner for $6,900. A nifty tip brought to us by Barn Finder PRA4SNW.

The 230 was in production from 1965 to 1968 with sales of just over 40,000 units, far less than either of its 4-cylinder counterparts. Regardless of engines, the W110 chassis applied to an entry-level lineup from Mercedes-Benz. While tailfins were all but gone with U.S. cars (Cadillac still had a touch of that styling), the 230 was a “Fintail” model so it looked a bit more like a product of the prior decade. The 230 used a 2.3-liter M180 I-6 motor with twin carburetors.

This edition of the 230 is said to be somewhat rare as it has an automatic transmission. We told it runs like a top, completing a 1,000-mile trip without missing a beat. That may be attributable to a long agenda of new parts and/or services, including new tires, battery, one new carb, fuel tank removed and cleaned, a valve adjustment, new brakes, and the list goes on and on. Also, the entire subframe in the rear was taken out, refreshed, painted, and then reinstalled. The odometer reading is about 54,000 miles.

The interior of this old car is quite tidy, with most of it being original. The body has a few dings, and the paint is flat in places, but with some further detailing the finish should be acceptable unless you’re a purist. In an interesting twist, we’re told all of the glass has been sanded and polished so it all presents as new. A replacement rear window seal comes with the auto for the buyer to take care of.  All-in-all, the vehicle is quite nice, and the seller has gone to lengths to photograph it in attractive settings.

Am I the only one wondering if the source for that listing is “Pray for Strange New Worlds”?

I never thought of it like that!

It’s a lot simpler PRAy4SNoW. I was an avid skier awhile back and have used it as my internet handle for so long that I just kept using it.
I should change it to PRA4SUN.
