The mid-size Chevy Chevelle was in the last year of its 2nd generation in 1972. Yet, its popularity wasn’t slowing down, with more than 200,000 V8 Malibu Sport Coupes produced in ’72. The seller describes this one as a project, but it’s pretty nice the way it sits (at least per the photos). This Malibu runs and drives, but the 350 cubic inch V8 is no doubt a replacement, as the VIN decodes as having had a 307 at the factory. Located in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, this Bow-Tie opportunity is available here on eBay, where the current bid of $10,100 hasn’t triggered the seller’s reserve.
Rumor has it the Colonnade GM intermediates were supposed to arrive in 1972 but got delayed. So, the 1972 Chevelle was largely the 1971 Chevelle with a charge in the turn signal indicators up front to tell them apart. This ’72 Malibu presents well for a projec,t with the undercarriage being squeaky clean. It’s a factory A/C Chevy, but that hardware has been disconnected. The TH-350 automatic transmission is column-shifted, and the car has a bench seat up front, and the interior looks nice overall.
We’re told there is some rust in the lower rear quarters and under the vinyl top, but it doesn’t jump right out at you. The sale of the vehicle includes all sorts of goodies, some installed and the rest for the buyer to take care of. This vast list includes a Flowmaster exhaust kit, brake kit, suspension bits, a tilt steering column, Bluetooth stereo, front and rear bumpers, and the assortment goes on.
This Chevelle has the makings of a fine 1970s automobile. Hopefully, the buyer won’t decide that yet another SS clone is needed when this car could be very nice the way it’s headed. The vehicle already has SS wheels and a steering wheel to improve its looks. The 350, when tuned right, can make this Malibu a capable performer.
