The Z-28 option was gone for the Camaro so the sporty option for Chevrolet fans was the two tone Rally Sport. Some smart buyer ordered this 1976 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport with a 350 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 speed transmission. Tony Primo found this car located in Spokane Valley, Washington in the eastern part of the state. The car is reported to have only 19,670 miles on it since new. It is listed here on Craigslist for $22,000.
While low mileage, the under the hood picture is not very awe inspiring. The best that Chevrolet had to offer was a smog era 350 cubic inch V8 engine. With a 4 barrel carburetor, the small block could only must 165 horsepower. Fortunately, this engine sends its power through a 4 speed transmission and a 3.73:1 rear end. The build sheet shows it left the factory with a 3.08:1 rear end. The lack of performance didn’t seem to deter Chevrolet enthusiasts as 182,959 Camaros were built in 1976. Only about 22,000 of those Camaros were ordered with a manual transmission.
The interior of the Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport is spartan with a base interior no air conditioning, power windows or power locks. That is how many enthusiasts like it. This car is being sold by the second owner. It was supposedly special ordered from Cam Chevrolet in Spokane, Washington. The seller has owned the car for 11 years and it has spent most of its live in a garage. The Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport was ordered with the gauge package rear spoiler and F41 performance suspension.
At some point, the owner added what looks like Corvette Rally wheels and BF Goodrich Radial TA tires. The Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport still has the original catalytic converter and what looks like a new muffler. The undercarriage looks clean with just surface rust. The Spokane area is a fairly dry climate. For what it is worth, I bought a 1971 Trans Am from Spokane and it is a clean car. By 1976, it was clear that Camaro enthusiasts wanted the Z-28 option back and Pontiac was selling Trans Ams faster than they could built them. That was in the good ol’ days when competition between GM divisions was healthy and resulted in fun cars that were differentiated by their drivetrains, interiors and exterior looks.
I must admit I thought this was overpriced. Then I looked at the ad. This is one sweet car. Find one that hasn’t been trashed. Just saying. GLWTS
KC John, yes, I agree about the price IF it is truly a less than 20,000 mile car. Engine compartment looks awfully grungy for that low of miles.
I have had many cars and trucks and can honestly say I have never cleaned my engine bay. I meticulously changed oil and did whatever maintenance was necessary but never cared if dust was on my valve covers or inside tubs……because no one ever saw it and I didn’t like spraying water in there.That being said, just by the pictures this looks like a good solid car with a great rust free body. 22K good? Maybe although that’s tops but I realize everything is double from just 3 years ago. Don’t diss a good car just because it has a dusty engine.
Certainly agree with Bruce on the engine room. Pretty crappy for a price of 22K. Pretty on the outside and junk on the inside usually means something.
Very nice Rally Sport! For the age & price would be well worth looking into. Probably will go for a bit more. Had a 1979 Z-28. Good ol days for sport cars.
Nice, I tried to buy one back in about 87 young stupid kid fresh out of high school, didn’t have the cash bank said NO to financing. Looking back that was probably a good thing because I had a lead foot and would have destroyed the car.
Without a Z28 this was the “performance” Camaro. In Michigan this was typical equipment. I don’t recall the dk red (mahogany) on Camaros but it looks sharp. Nothing not to like.
I had a white 77 ralley sport..Wasn’t fast but handled good…I miss that car

Under the hood of this one looks like it would benefit from nothing more than a bucket of soap and water. Could be wrong. Just what it looks like to me. Had a friend who had one just like this. Color and all. It was mid 80’s and the car was mint. And yes, I was jealous. Awesome car for the era. To bad it was so slow. I also had a 75 but mine was built when I got it and I added a 03 LS when it was time to replace the motor. Even though mine had about $50,000 in it when all was said and done, I would give it in a second for this one. Unfortunately a kid got ahold of mine and thought it would be better rhino lined. “EVERYTHING” even the brand new Craeger wheels ended up with dark grey crap on them. The car was custom pink with graphics down the sides and even a pink roll cage inside. After he was done the roll cage was”NEON GREEN” spray paint. Also the brand new carpet with green overspray. Still makes me very sad to even think about it. At least the “new” owner is trying to remove the liner and save it. Haven’t seen it in a long time. Would like to know how it is. Ya know…kinda like a lost child. Sure hope no one messes this one up. Just not many left.
You can play with engine for some more power, looks great with vette rims
Mikey,couldn’t order a Z28 in late 76 or first part of 77 so I ordered a 77 RS 2 tone 350 4 speed posi. Was a dog until I changed the gears in the 4 speed and it ran high 14’s at Norwalk,Ohio drag strip . Still have the car with 40000 miles on it. Love that car.
That’s actually CAMP Chevrolet of Spokane. My dad ordered his brand new 1985 IROC Z from them in 1985.
It’s a wimp 160 to 180 hp. It’s a nice car with No power. But I still enjoy it. Those were really good with nothing to be proud of. Uni frame sucked but that’s what they were
