Massive Muscle Car And Memorabilia Auction!

Mecum is conducting an auction of nearly 200 cars and assorted memorabilia. Most of the cars are from the heyday of the muscle car era, but not entirely. The site of the auction is Rick Treworgy’s Muscle Car City (aka museum) in Punta Gorda, Florida on January 22-23, 2021. Window shoppers can visit the museum during regular visiting hours or on the auction preview day, January 21. Those planning to bid on something will need a paid registration. All routine safety precautions are in place, including those for COVID-19. Check it all out here on Mecum.

Vehicle Summary

Of the 195 vehicles we see listed, 78% are cars, 19% are trucks, and the rest are racecars and motorcycles. Chevrolets are the overwhelming favorite here, with 79% of the inventory being from the Bow-Tie brigade, 13% Pontiacs, 4% Oldsmobiles and a few Cadillacs, one GMC, and one Willys. Broken down by the decade these cars represent, the distribution is as follows:

Before 1940: 16%              1940-49: 4%

1950-59: 15%                     1960-69: 42%

1970-79: 15%                     1980-89: 1%

1990-99: 4%                       2000-09: 2%

2010-19: 1%                       2020: one car

Since Chevies are the most in number, here’s a breakdown by nameplate:

Camaro: 13%                      Corvette: 30%

El Camino: 5%                    Impala/Bel Air: 14%

Malibu/Monte Carlo: 12%

Nomad: 2%                         Nova: 3%

Trucks: 21%

Here are some of the most interesting of the cars being offered:

1957 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup

These pre-El Camino trucks were built for three model years, 1955-57. This one is from its last year of production and features a frame-off restoration that was done only 250 miles ago. It’s the popular turquoise and white paint combination and is powered by a small-block Chevy V-8 (265?) with a 3-speed manual. The bed is oak lined rather than steel.

1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

This dark blue and white Malibu convertible has a souped-up 327 with 350 hp and a 4-speed transmission. The performance enhancements include Holley high-rise intake manifold, Edelbrock performance heads, aluminum radiator, and headers with dual exhaust. The bucket seats with the console are a nice touch.

1932 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery

If you want a fancy way to conduct deliveries, this ’32 delivery van has been hopped up with a 350 cubic inch V-8 and automatic transmission. The red/black combination is eye-catching, especially the custom embroidered plush interior and leather-wrapped LeCarra steering wheel. Don’t forget the American Racing wheels, as well.

1955 Chevrolet Corvette

This one has lost its Blame Flame inline-six at some point for a Chevy 265 V-8 good for 195 hp with the Powerglide transmission. Otherwise, it looks pretty much the way it came from the factory in the last year of the C1 ‘Vette generation. You could get in a color other than Polar White that model year, so this one looks a lot like the 1953-54s.

Wasn’t 1955 the first year for the v-8 in the Corvette? It may have come from the factory with the 265 and PG.

200 million is what you will see out of 600 million thanks to Federal, state, and local taxes in most places. Pretty cheap of Uncle Sam to advertise an amount and take 2/3 back in taxes esp after they get the lions share of the sales anyway before giving out any winnings. Okay, you got 200 large in the bank, how many cars can you really buy and properly use anyway? Gee whiz guys, buy a few dream cars and leave the rest for other people. Being a hoarder is just as disgusting for rich people as it is for poor trashy people. And while I am on my soap box, you WILL give away a bunch to good causes, right?

Rick has lots of nice cars and most are street legal and many are of the Big Block and 4 speed variety. He has a 65 -Z16 chevelle and a ZL-1 69 Corvette though that one may be a clone.

Sad we used to visit the show in Punta Gorda on our way to Cape Coral, they had a lot of nice vehicles there.
Last winter when we went by it was closed, now I know why.

My father lives by this car collection and had the opportunity to walk through it and said it is simply an amazing collection. The amount of unique and super nice cars under 1 roof simply blows your mind. It will be missed.

Was just there 2 or 3 weekends ago. I think it was last weekend the museum was going to be open. They had a swap meet in the parking lot too. We got there a little late for the swap meet but enjoyed the collection inside. I don’t doubt the virus and subsequent lockdown forced his decision to downsize and retire. He is keeping some cars and the others go to auction. I believe he will keep the diner open and may still have car shows there.

That COPO ’69 Camaro above has got my most explicit attention, more than the orange one that’s also going to auction. I knew it was a 427 Camaro at first site, not some garage built hot rod 427 Camaro but one of a few made on purpose by Chevrolet. There’s no disguising it,,, raw stealthy brutal machine.
There’s so many great cars on the auction site it baffles the mind really. Just one, pick just one, if you could have it. It’s not that easy, but lots of fun.

Checked out the story in the local newspaper. The owner is retiring because of lack of visitors this year for the obvious reason. He plans on keeping the attached bar & grille open, it’s got good food, hope it continues.

Story goes he is keeping about 1/4 of his collection for his own, “toys” as he is quoted as saying.

Looked up all the auction vehicles and memorabilia on Mecum’s site and am amazed again!! Check it out.

I already picked out my list, (come on MegaMillions or PowerBall, come to Daddy!).

    Good thing I’m not a big gambler…..??Hahaaaa

My wife and I went to the museum at the original location (a closed Walmart) in about 2007 maybe. Saw the auction and was wondering about possible reasons. Too bad.
