Mopar Mechanics! Pair of Plymouth Projects

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The seller has a pair of Plymouths that share little but the overall brand. One is a 1969 Sport Fury convertible, which is rare in that only 1,579 of them were produced. The other is a 1972 Plymouth Gold Duster with the Twister option and a Slant-Six, which is not so rare. Both are located in a yard in London, Kentucky, and are available here on Facebook Marketplace. You can take your pick for $3,000 or scoop up the duo for $5,000. Thanks for the tip, “Pnuts”!

Plymouth offered a full range of automobiles in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Full-size, intermediate, and compact. The Fury began in the mid-1950s and was a part of Plymouth’s big car lineup through 2 ½ decades. The Duster was a fastback version of the Valiant beginning in 1970 and going through the end of the platform in 1976. Both the Gold and Twister were trim packages on the Duster, not specifically focused on performance.

1969 Sport Fury

The Sport Fury began in 1959 and could best be described as a Plymouth Impala Super Sport. Bucket seats were commonplace in the Sport Fury, and all of them came with a V8 engine. The Furys were redesigned in 1969, gaining a “fuselage” profile. The seller’s car looks like a roller that’s been sitting outside for many years. Whether it once had to 230 hp, 318 or something bigger isn’t known. The canvas top has issues, but the interior looks to be intact, though the front seats are not bolted down. This car’s title has managed to survive.

1972 Gold Duster Twister

In its third year, the Twister remained an option on the Duster. It was designed to give the car a Duster 340 look and feel while either Slant-Six power or a 318 V8 lived under the hood (the former in the case of this Mopar). You got special stripes, a blacked-out hood, and a 340-like grille. This car looks like it’s shrinking into the ground. It needs a lot of work, and there is no title. Calling it a parts car is more accurate than a project.
