Until the mid-1980s, Nissan-built cars were sold in the U.S. as Datsuns. That changed in 1986 when the company decided to use its Japanese brand on North American shores. That meant that cars sold in the U.S. as the 200SX from 1984 to 1988 would carry either nameplate depending on the model year. This nice edition from 1985 looks to be in very nice shape with low mileage and even retains its original paint. It’s located in New Milford, Connecticut, and is available here on craigslist for $7,850. Another tip from Mitchell G.!
Known as the S12 in Japan, the car was called the 200SX once Nissan began exporting them to the U.S. Using retractable headlights, which were reminiscent of the prior decade, you could get a 200SX as either a notchback or hatchback, with the former being the body style of the seller’s nice import. More than one engine was used in the 200SX depending on when, so the one in the seller’s car could be a 1.8-liter, fuel-injected inline-4 that produced 120 hp.
This edition of the 200SX looks tidy and rust-free, in part due to the auto originating in Washington State. That’s where the seller found it five years ago and brought it cross-country to Connecticut. The paint is original but may not be perfect as some of the photos suggest some fading has begun. The car has been lightly used in its 38 years, averaging just 1,600 miles every 12 months. BTW, does it come with a spare tire (see trunk pic in listing)?
There are several options on the car, but no mention is made as to whether air conditioning is one of them. It has automatic transmission, which would tend to slow performance down a little, and power steering and brakes. The interior is fine and looks to have plenty of life left in it. I don’t recall the last time I saw a Nissan 200SX. Like so many 1980s automobiles, you drove them into the ground and then moved on. It’s nice to see that at least this one has survived.
Well if you want to buy it get the timing belt and water pump chaned ASAP nice clean little commuter
Always liked these. Seems a bit steep in the price. But true not seen one in over a decade I guess
They sold a few of these didn’t they. And now, there are none left.
Back in the day when buying a 2 door car was still a thing that people did.
Now, you never see a new 2 door.
My Bronco is a 2 door and I never see them. I guess I’m not “family friendly” – LOL.
