No Reserve 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1968 Ford Mustang convertible was just found by the seller in the possession of a collector who had stored it for the past 12 years with the hope of restoring it someday. The car is located in Dade City, Florida and is listed for sale here on eBay with just a little over 24 hours left in the auction. The no reserve auction has reached a price of $10,500 after 34 bids.

The car was originally painted Lime Gold Metallic from the factory but is now a dark green with a dark green interior. The seller states that the car retains its numbers matching V8 engine and automatic transmission. There are over 200 photos to look at that indicate the paint has some blemishes but is a good 10 footer. The car has a clear Florida title and is listed as nonrunning.

The odometer reflects 87,000 miles and the interior is most likely original with some rips in the seams and tears. There is some rust which the seller discloses but it appears to be mostly superficial and not rot through. The Mustang has aftermarket wheels and the tires are probably too old to be reliable.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of information about the drive train. Engine options ranged from the 200 cubic inch inline six cylinder to the 428 cubic inch V8 Cobra Jet engine. This car likely has the 302 cubic inch Windsor V8 with a three speed  automatic transmission. Those of you who are Mustang enthusiasts can chime in and educate us on what this car was equipped with from the factory.

We all know that Steve McQueen’s Bullitt Mustang with a1968 model. Of course, that was a 2+2 model. My car got to sit next to the Bullitt Mustang at last year’s Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN). I have to admit that the Bullitt got a lot more attention than my 1971 BFG Tirebird Trans Am. So let me know, what is this car worth as it sits?

Since we’re on the subject of the Bullitt Mustang, why not build a what-if Bullitt Mustang convertible with this car?
Side note: I’d take your TireBird Trans Am over the OG Bullitt Mustang any day of the week Bruce

I always wanted to do a what if ragtop version of a 1968 California Special. But here I think I’d leave the color do a Bullitt style grill delete & American Racing wheels with Shelby side scoops. Maybe some Shelby (Thunderbird) taillights.

67 or 68? It has front side marker lights but none on the back?

That is super strange. Because 68 was the year mandatory side marker lights were in effect. It should have them but a 67 would not have them. Then again a 67 would have slots for the side scoops. So either 67 scoop holes were filled in or 68 markers were??

Or it’s a replacement quarter panel skin and the marker wasn’t added.

If memory serves me right the 68 Mustang had marker lights on the front and reflectors on the rear.

Uhh……….’67 vent window door on passenger side, ’68 non-vent window on driver’s side (as well as aforementioned mismatched side marker lights). This is two wrecks spliced together.

Also interesting that none of the pictures show the passenger side window rolled down. I wonder if there’s something wrong with the mechanism?

This one is scary. Looks like it has some aftermarket frame supports installed. Was a C code 289 2v from factory.

A “flipper” selling a spliced together Mustang from a “collector” to a “sucker”? Where’s Dr. Frankenstein when you need him!

Love BF! I would not have noticed the obvious things that others have pointed out. Reading their posts, I wouldn’t touch this wreck.

‘Tis a rare one alright. Probably the only one in existence with both a vent window and non-vent window door. Never mind the missing rear marker lights, missing door panels, and poorly aligned body panels. There exist some Mustangs in better condition for less money. Keep looking.

This is not a Camaro. 68 Mustangs had vent windows.

Sold for $12,000. No pictures with the top up. One picture shows a little of the top under the cover. Dirty white or cream (buff?) with a tear. will have to replace the top.
