It seems like Plum Crazy Purple is a love it or hate it color. Dodge had some of the brightest and most creative paint names of the muscle car wars and they are just as popular today. This 1970 Plymouth Barracuda wears it’s Plum Crazy paint well and is a definite head-turner. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of nearly $28,000. While there isn’t a lot of information in the ad regarding its history, you can tell someone put a lot of time and money into restoring it. The car is currently located in Pataskala, Ohio, and will go to the highest bidder. Let’s take a closer look and don’t forget, the highest bid wins!
The engine is a 383 cubic inch V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, the car doesn’t have the optional 440 or legendary 426 Hemi, but the 383 puts out a respectable 335 horsepower. As mentioned before, there is no information in the ad regarding the mechanical condition other than the seller says it can be driven anywhere.
The interior is basic black, which is a good combination with almost any exterior color. Again, no information in the ad, but the interior looks original. You can see the pistol-grip shifter peering through the steering wheel. Other than a good cleaning, the interior looks ready to enjoy.
Overall, this car presents really well. Hopefully, the buyer will be happy with their decision to auction the car at no reserve. Selling something of value at no reserve is a bit of a gamble. You have to have at least two people that want it bad enough to drive up the bidding. With only a few days left, this car seems far underbid at this point. Sometimes a no-reserve auction will actually drive bidding up since there is the guarantee that the highest bid will be the owner. Have you ever sold or purchased a car at a no reserve auction? Tell us your experience, we’d love to hear about it.
Another great car!! The 383 is no slouch so I really don’t see the big deal as stated in the write up!! It’s Plumb crazy and it’s a 4 speed!! There isn’t anything here not to like!!
Plumb Crazy is my favorite, after Molua Rouse something (pink!). A perfect color to my eye.
BillC, the name that you’re looking for is Moulin Rouge, which is more commonly known by it’s Dodge name, Panther Pink.
Speaking of Dodge names, this ‘Cuda isn’t technically Plum Crazy, as listed in the description. As a Plymouth, it’s correct name is In Violet.
Pretty car. If it’s as nice as it looks at first glance it should make the new buyer proud.
I really like the 4spds without a console. That makes for a clean looking purposeful interior.

I used to buy a lot of tow yard vehicles.abandoned,or impounded. Only reserve was local wrecking yards . they would start with $100 or so. cheap. Other than that how ever wanted it the most bid the highest. I bought a car once that the owners of the car would not pay the bill so they thought they would just let it go to auction and get it cheap. towards the end of there pockets quit about $300 into it I got after a few bids with another dude. Those x owners where so pissed off after there cash flow ended . Every bid after they quit got them madder than hornets. They came up to me and wanted the car claiming the had the title after the action. They even called the police how had to inform them there title was no good. You had to see that to understand what a fiasco that turned into. I have so many storys about auctions and other purchases.
Nice car, but I have never liked this color. Wish it was a 318 with the 4 speed.
of course you do…..
feel free to buy it. I’ll happily trade you a 318 for the 383.
The 70 ‘Cuda has been my dream car since was a kid . But by the time was old enough to get one, the only ones left around CT. were beat to death rust buckets . Then came real life responsibilities …oh well, I guess if I win the lottery , I’ll get one !
Strange to put so much effort into resto and exterior/engine bay detail and then leave the interior looking like a mess?
Boy that’s a nice car and I know the because it’s not a 426 or a 440 wedge that drops the value some but on the same note I have always been a fan of the 383 they made darned respectable power and offered a very good base to build LOTS MORE! I would love to own this car and I guess I would get used to the color!
At 19/20 years I found a 1970 Plum Crazy Challenger, 426 Hemi/4 speed with the engine disassembled to the block and all its parts on the trunk because of a spun rod. $500! My professional mechanic father reasoned me out of the purchase, my grose t/home at GE, $127, nitrided cranks are not regriand-able, cost $900! Then add from there needed $ for parts. The car sold, I saw it at a gas station and kept track, trunk was broken into with all parts stolen, got bumped and moved several times then disappeared with no info on where it went.
I sold my BMW R60/5 at a no reserve auction. Got $1500 for it. It still hurts every time I think of it
It was actually called In Violet purple by Plymouth.
If this were to end right now at $32,900, someone would have gotten a tremendous deals.
Barracuda’s aren’t cheap, this will end up near 40K.
You nailed it. $40,100 with minutes remaining.
Yep, unfortunately. My first car was a Barracuda and I will never be able to afford another one.
I just bought a well-preserved 1962 Valiant at a no-reserve auction. The bid I made 24 hours before the end of the auction was the last one made. I got it for about half of what I was expecting to spend.
The Plymouth color is In-Violet, not Plum Crazy!!!!!
Fan shroud not needed? Surprised seein a declutchin fan on non a/c car.
Is that an aftmkt air horn on passenger inner fender – lower right here? …

Cool color, great motor, nice interior. What is to not like? Currently at $34,850. Seems like a bargain to me!
