No Reserve: 1976 Ford F-250 Explorer

When the words “No Reserve” appear in any classic auction, the vehicle in question will attract attention. That makes the subdued bidding action on this 1976 Ford F-250 Explorer surprising. The seller opened the auction at a modest sum but hasn’t been overwhelmed by the action so far. That means this healthy survivor might sell for an affordable price, making the auction worth monitoring. The F-250 is listed here on eBay in Clackamas, Oregon. It currently sits at $4,050 off the back of a mere twelve bids.

Ford introduced its Sixth Generation F-Truck Series for the 1973 model year, with the range remaining on sale until 1979. The original owner ordered this 1976 F-250 in Medium Chestnut with contrasting White stripes. The seller doesn’t mention any prior restoration or repairs, suggesting this is a genuine survivor. The paint has some imperfections, but the overall condition of it and the panels are impressive for a vehicle of this type and age. There are no glaring problems requiring immediate attention, and the bed exhibits no evidence of abuse. It has the usual accumulated scratches that confirm this classic has worked for a living, but performing a bed repaint or installing a bed-liner would be easy and inexpensive. The seller supplies an excellent selection of underside shots that confirm this beauty is as solid as the day it left the factory. There is barely a hint of surface corrosion and absolutely no evidence of steel penetration. The trim and glass are in good order, and the step rear pumper is a practical option.

Powering this Pickup is a 360ci V8 that sends 143hp to the road via a four-speed manual transmission. These vehicles can prove difficult to maneuver in tight situations, meaning the new owner will welcome the inclusion of power assistance for the steering and brakes. The good news continues with this classic below the surface because it is in excellent mechanical health. The engine sports an aftermarket air cleaner, but the original is included. It has an indicated 90,000 miles on the clock, which is low for any classic with forty-seven years under its belt. It runs and drives perfectly, with the seller stating they would happily drive it anywhere immediately.

Interior imperfections are almost non-existent with this F-250. I spotted slight damage to the speaker grille on the passenger door trim, but the remaining trim and carpet are excellent. The seatcover is free from significant wear, while the dash and pad appear perfect. The wheel is an aftermarket unit that won’t appeal to everyone, but the seller includes the original for those seeking a more stock appearance. The listing doesn’t mention any other additions, although I can’t tell whether the radio is a factory item or an aftermarket retro-style unit. The dash hasn’t been cut if it is the latter, allowing the winning bidder to slot in a correct radio if that proves the case.

Classic Pickups are usually popular, and solid survivors generally attract plenty of attention when they hit the market. Throw in the variable of a No Reserve auction, and buyers are frequently on it like sharks in a feeding frenzy. That hasn’t been the case with this 1976 F-250 Explorer, and I’m unsure why. Monitoring the auction could be wise if it ticks the boxes for you. If the action doesn’t intensify in the next few days, someone could score themselves a bargain. I can’t see why it shouldn’t be you.

Nice truck, not too much not to like. I would guess being a 3/4 ton 4spd is the reason for the lack of hits, too much like a real truck for today’s cruising crowd

Nice square Ford, was built to work and has done so with care by the looks of it. Agree with Yblocker F250 with a stick won’t win over the cruise crowd. Someone wanting to have a truck for limited use this is a buy.

Lemmesee, moderate torque/ low HP 10 MPG 351M (not C or W), check.
    4 spd stick, check.
    2WD, check.
Longbed, check. 3/4 ton (rides like a truck), check.
    Camper mirrors, check.
Rope tie downs on the tailgate, check.
Yep, it’s a real HTG work truck and probably too much work to make into a Ken&Barbie Special. Hopefully the new owner will be someone that appreciates it for what it is-a comfortable old work truck that’s content with, say, hauling a load to the dump or helping the kids move out. I’d say it’d move a good size load of plywood too but there’s no gun rack and considering the price for wood building materials these days that’s something you conspicuously need anymore.
Very clean work truck at a decent price so far. Let’s see where it goes.

A 360, not a 351M, but about the same driving experience. 351Ms came along for ’77.

Give me a pair of orthopedic shoes, I stand corrected! Absolutely overlooked that, Todd-thank you. I have a ‘79 with the lethargic 351M and the brain synchro slipped while reading this.

Lovely looking truck. If only more pictures were posted on ebay. The more pics one can post, the better. My favourite years for this generation F250 has always been the 1976-77. Probably because my grandparents had a 76-77 Ford Camper Special they used to tow their 5th wheeler around the USA.

Does anyone else remember when this was a deluxe truck? Nicer seat, rear slider, ps, pb, chrome bumpers with trim and some stripes. Proper drive train. Just remember that she’s going to skip around back there without a load.

I also love Mopar cars and vehicles, but I also like Fords and Chevys. I like Toyotas, I like Nissan, I like Mitsubishi, etc. For me, anything on wheels with an engine. :)
