No Reserve: 2000 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 SS

So, what’s not to like about this 2000 Chevrolet Camaro? It wears both Z28 and SS badges, and a selection of upgrades means its V8 churns out 430hp. Oh, did I mention that the motivated seller has listed it with No Reserve? Therefore, this potent pony car is mere days away from finding a new home. The auction action has been strong, but the high bid remains in affordable territory at the time of writing. The seller has listed the Camaro here on eBay in Levittown, Pennsylvania. Bidding sits at $5,700, but with a strong Watch List tally, that figure is sure to rise.

Chevrolet’s Fourth Generation Camaro enjoyed a long production life, remaining on sale from 1993 until 2002. It remained a healthy seller throughout that period, and they have come to represent a relatively affordable way for enthusiasts to slip behind the wheel of a high-performance classic. This Camaro rolled off the line in 2000, wearing Z28 and SS badges, and dazzling Bright Red paint. It presents nicely for a vehicle with 93,000 miles on the clock, with no significant cosmetic shortcomings. The seller briefly touches upon a restoration in the listing text. They don’t indicate how extensive the process was, but that makes the spotless presentation no surprise. The panels are straight, the gaps are consistent, and the underside shots reveal no rust problems. Sunny day motoring will be extremely enjoyable with the T-Top panels safely stowed in their pockets, and the sparkling alloy wheels add the perfect finishing touch to the exterior.

Lifting the hood reveals where this Camaro becomes serious. The first owner teamed the 5.7-liter LS1 V8 with a six-speed manual transmission and a 3.73 rear end, and with the factory quoting power and torque figures of 320hp and 345 ft/lbs in SS form, the Camaro possessed plenty of street cred. However, this car takes that a step further, courtesy of some significant engine upgrades. They include AFR cylinder heads, high-capacity injectors, a larger BBK throttle body, tubular headers, and a Magnaflow exhaust. Forget 320hp and say hello to a dyno-verified 430. The standard clutch could potentially have struggled to cope with the extra mumbo, so the seller installed a Stage Three ACT Clutch Kit. They also added SLP frame connectors, UMI adjustable traction bars, and Bilstein shocks. The seller states that the Camaro runs and drives perfectly, which may allow the winning bidder to fly in and drive it home.

The only place where this Camaro shows its age is on the driver’s seatcover. It isn’t horrendous, but the cloth on the base is stretched, and there appears to be a developing hole on the backrest’s inner edge. However, that’s as bad as it gets, because the remaining upholstered surfaces and the plastic are in good condition. Aftermarket additions include a Hurst shifter and a modern Sanyo stereo. It features dual airbags and all the creature comforts expected in a car of this type in 2000, including air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, cruise control, and a tilt wheel.

The 2000 Camaro Z28 SS was a potent performer in its day, and a standard example is still a pretty handy device today. This car places an additional 110hp at the driver’s disposal, which is not to be sneezed at. It is guaranteed to find a new home in under a week, and the new owner will slip behind the wheel of a classic that will plaster a mile-wide smile on their face. Are you tempted to be that person?

I’ve never been a big fan of the Catfish Camaro but this is a pretty nice example of one. I would want to see the powerband because if all of those 430 horses are at the high-end, the car’s not going to feel very fun to drive, and you might actually be better with a stock one if you’re not at the drag strip all the time.

I know this because I modified one of these LS1 Camaros back in the day and found myself really wishing I had left it stock.

Good point, as I made the same mistake back in the day.

Of all the generations of Camaros, this one has always been at the bottom. A nice clean example I guess, if you’re into them.

Interesting. All that motor and it still has a Y pipe and single exhaust.

The 2000 Camero SS is upgrade over the Z28, and therefore does not wear any Z28 badges.

Come on, man. It’s CAMARO. One would think after 59 years…

As most of you know, these have a place in my heart ever since I owned a very similar looking ’99 Z/28, red, 6 speed.

This will be an interesting auction to follow since it is No Reserve, but has a lot of engine mods, and 6 previous owners.

I also detect a slightly different shade of red on the driver’s front fender. No good sunny pictures to see if the same on the passenger side. The interior plastics seem to have held up nicely for 93K.

Looks like this might be a sweet ride for not too much money. Nice power, 6 speed, handles decent and the t-tops are the icing on the cake. For the money this may be a performance bargain if it can and might be had cheap.

The facelifted 1998 Camaro looks like a 1997 Camaro that got hooked on meth over the summer.
