No Reserve 4-Speed Project: 1969 Plymouth Road Runner

After its introduction in 1968 as an attainable choice for most muscle car buyers, the Plymouth Road Runner gained momentum for its second year, selling nearly twice as many units in 1969 and receiving the coveted Motor Trend Car Of The Year award.  With over 81,000 produced for the ’69 model alone, these cars aren’t particularly rare, but Mopar enthusiasts seem to want them regardless of condition.  This 1969 Road Runner here on eBay needs a restoration, but could be a worthwhile project for those with strong DIY skills.  The B-Body is located in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, with a current high bid of $4,200.

The information we get about the car’s past is scarce, other than the seller sharing with us that he’s owned it for about a year, and that it’s not presently running.  Fortunately, the Road Runner appears mostly complete on the outside, but there are several areas where it looks like some backyard body repairs have already been attempted.  There’s no mention of how much filler has been applied to the panels, but hopefully, most of the sheet metal will be salvageable with just a good smoothing out.

This one came from the factory with a 383 and a 4-speed, although it’s not specified whether these are still the original components.  The seller does mention that the engine is not running, but no explanation or even clues as to why are provided, plus no word on if the crank will still turn.  Most of the bay appears fairly orderly, so hopefully, with some tinkering, the motor will be able to run again without a complete overhaul.

The interior photos are just dark enough that it’s hard to tell if the floors are solid, but we can see from the missing panel on the passenger side door that there’s a different color on the inside, so it’s probably been replaced.  Some new seat upholstery and a detailed dashboard refurbishing will be on the to-do list for the next owner, but if the price doesn’t skyrocket before the auction ends, perhaps this one will sell low enough to make a restoration practical.  Is this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner one you’d consider taking on as a project?

Well I’m going to say why it’s probably not running. Either the guy didn’t know how to adjust the points or the timing chain is bad.
