While this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette seems like a fairly basic model, it’s got some strong points going for it too, not the least being it’s a no-reserve auction here on eBay. The car is located down in Miami, Florida, where the price has already gone from the opening bid of $1 up to $11,100 at the moment, so apparently others are seeing some promise here as well. Some of the details are a bit vague, but the information we do get appears relevant so let’s dig in and check this one out.
Good news hits us right off the bat, as the seller claims this Corvette has been in the same family since new, and although we don’t get any other specifics about the C3’s history it does seem to exhibit the straight body lines the owner mentions, but there’s no word on whether or not that’s still the original finish or even whether or not black is the factory color. A few paint flaws are mentioned, but the assessment of the car being driver-quality seems reasonable.
This one’s also said to be a numbers-matching example, so the 350 and automatic transmission should be the factory components. The mileage is listed as 68,537 and no mention of whether or not that’s actual or if the odometer is on its second trip around, but the small block is said to be running strong and the car still driving nicely, though the A/C belt is missing under the hood. There’s been some recent brake work performed along with a new radiator installed, plus the carburetor has been rebuilt, so maybe this one’s ready for some weekend cruising.
The interior appears to be in decent shape overall, and assuming it’s original might be an indication that the stated mileage is original and correct. There’s a dash piece under the steering column that’ll need some attention, but the seats, door panels, and even the carpeting still look pretty good to be past the 50-year mark. No photos from underneath are provided, but the seller mentions a solid frame, so hopefully everything down below will live up to the next owner’s expectations. Miami Melvin strikes again. This is one of his better looking cars. I don’t see much to complain about and, as Shawn says, it could be a nice cars & coffee driver.
I wonder how much time he has had to put the AC belt on? Maybe its not operating. What a surprise.I’m sure he is out hunting down other collector Corvettes in the greater Miami area.
Clutch probably froze so the belt was removed. Happened to my 70 big block.

Every where I looked, I cannot find black was a factory color for 1970. Had it 68 and 69 for C3, and returned in 77. And then sporadic on and off the years later. So this car was a complete recolor at one point or maybe a special order. Just sayin’.
Correct. If it was a special order to have it painted at a Chevy dealer, the trim tag would have “SPCL” on it.
The a/c will require at least the evaporator replaced. They all leaked after a couple of years.
If the ac worked the seller would have replaced the belt!
