No Reserve Roller: 1970 Plymouth Satellite

It’s become commonplace in the auto world to take a base model car and clone it into something more inspiring, which is exactly what the owner of this 1970 Plymouth Satellite originally had in mind.  Visions of a Road Runner or even a Superbird crossed his mind, but due to a lack of time, neither of these dreams is going to come true, and now the B-Body is looking for someone else to take over.  Whether you’re wanting to keep this one a Satellite or create something that goes beep beep, this Mopar is in Schertz, Texas, and can be spotted here on eBay.  So far, the no-reserve auction has only reached $2,050, but I’ve got a hunch that number will keep climbing before this one’s completed.

Sometimes a red flag gets raised in my mind when a project is totally in primer before all of the necessary body work has been done, but hopefully, the outside sheet metal is fairly solid here.  The lower quarter sections are stated as in need of replacing, common areas to corrode in these cars, plus there’s some hail damage mentioned on the roof.  A couple of dents on the trunk lid are also present, and if you look closely, a few other small dents here and there can be seen, along with what could be described as some uneven areas on the doors.  It’s hard to tell under that flat grey, but kudos to the seller for stating that this car needs a full restoration.  Don’t forget to also add a new trunk pan to your shopping list.

Most interior components have already been removed, and the seats can be spotted sitting in the seller’s front yard.  There’s also a trunk full of parts, but unfortunately, it’s hard to tell exactly what’s there.  Probably the best news inside is that we get to see the floors, which seem reasonably solid overall, but a section has been cut out for a 4-speed.  What we don’t get to view are any photos from the underside, but the seller does give the frame rails a clean bill of health, saying they are all in good condition.

No fender tag is present, but the seller states this one began life as a Slant 6, although a VIN check shows that’s incorrect, as reader Big Bear points out that the fifth digit indicates a 318 V8.  The owner mentions blue as the original color, which is still visible under the trunk lid but not on the bottom side of the hood, plus there’s a 383 badge on the outside, so the hood is definitely from another car.  Maybe it was chosen because that’s the engine size the owner had intended to install, but no motor or transmission is included, so the next owner can pick whatever drivetrain best suits their needs.  Whichever path is taken, there’s going to be lots of work, time, and expense involved here.  However, if the initial investment price stays low, perhaps this one would make good restoration material.  Is this 1970 Plymouth Satellite a car you’d be interested in taking on as a project?

A two door HT, unusual to see a slant six in one. Most were 318s. The initial cost of said 318 from the factory was almost nothing, so why go for the six? This car weighs a lot for that six, so it is going to have to work hard. I bet the MPG was no better. How much is an interior going to cost? Sure, they make new seat covers, but seats? Where are you gonna find those. Its not 1980 anymore and the wrecking yards were full of these (those not sent to the crusher) This car needs to be shiny black, always a killer color for them.

1970 Plymouth Satellite base engine was 318 2 barrel standard, normally they came with an automatic too.

RH23G0C… G stands for 318. That’s the engine code . And 225 is C . So I don’t understand why the seller said 6 cylinder? I never saw this body style with a 225. The hood is from a Road Runner being a 383 engine. This can be cool project but it’s a shame the fender tag is missing. Do you keep it as a Satellite with a big block or go down Road Runner route? Me.. I would keep it as a Satellite with a 383 Automatic but change the rear end to 8 3/4 with posi 3:55 gears. Oh it would definitely have AC! I seen Satellites have 383 2 or 4 bbl set up. I would go with a HP 383 Hemi orange engine color. No headers performance exhaust manifolds only. Not that many nice Satellites out there. But plenty of RR. Good luck to the next owner. 🐻🇺🇸

Agreed with Kens comment. Another project stalled or lost time to move on with the restoration.
