Not a Brady Bunch Wagon: 1976 Dodge Coronet

Those of you who are over forty years of age may think of every 1970s Moper wagon as one that Carol Brady drove in the tv show, Brady Bunch. They all get lumped together. This 1976 Dodge Coronet wagon can be found here on eBay in the capital city of Ohio: Columbus. The current bid price is creeping up on $4,500 and there is no reserve.

If anyone is keeping score, the last big Mopar station wagon that they used on the Brady Bunch was a 1973 Plymouth Satellite. The show had ended before this ’76 Coronet wagon was made and the kids were well on their way to cashing those unemployment checks since nobody got residuals in those days and like most child stars none of them could find any real work after that, and.. well, that’s another story for another day, maybe over some pork chopsh and appleshaush..

This clean long roof is mostly rust free, being a Washington state car, according to the seller. It is showing a few battle scars and some rust on the rear quarters. The seller says that this metallic green wagon is wearing “85% original paint. Woodgrain delete, a/c delete, roof rack delete” and that the “Floors are solid, Spare tire well solid, rockers solid, fenders solid, doors solid, tailgate solid, roof solid, unibody structure (framerails etc) are solid.” This is the last year for the Dodge Coronet name, next up would be the Dodge Monaco in 1977.

The whole bloomin’ Brady Bunch would have fit into this nine-passenger car. I know, who needs an SUV when you can have a nine-passenger wagon for five-grand? AC? Who needs AC when you have nine people sitting on vinyl seats in the summertime?! Who’s with me? (crickets) Ok, you’d better add AC but the interior looks pretty good other than that for being a 42-year old car. The back seat looks good but there is no photo showing the rear cargo area or rear-facing seat at all which is pretty disappointing. You can see the cracks in the dash but this will most likely end up being a work car for someone, especially without having AC. This bare-bones-non-Brady-Bunch hauler has “Woodgrain delete, a/c delete, roof rack delete“.

This isn’t the bare-bones engine, though, it’s a slight upgrade to a 360 cubic-inch V8 which would have had 175 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque by this point. It looks pretty clean under that hood, doesn’t it? The seller says that it has “new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and + batt. cable.” They go on to say that it “was running and driving but I have let it sit for a couple years, so it needs some fresh gas, and general tlc to get it back on the road.” There is no question that most Barn Finds readers would have this car purring again in no time. Now, back to Brady Bunch trivia: ok, that time when Bobby…

We had some pork chopsh for dinner tonight; brined for an hour, browned on a cast- iron pan and finished in the oven to mid-rare. Fantastic. No appleshaush, though…

Wouldn’t a/c have been an option on this wagon? If so it wasn’t deleted, it was simply not ordered.

Same with the roof rack and woodgrain. They were all options.

Wood grain was only available and I was standard on the top of the lines Crestwood. Air and roof rack were optional equipment on all models

Station wagons are just plain cool since you don’t see many at car shows if any at all.

Read my mind! A 5.7 and a real transmission with a set of painted steel wheels and you’re rolling in fine iron.

Sam made his real meat deliveries to both Alice and Carol

Even in the mid 70’s one had to save. He plowed and they chowed. 🥩 🍗

Like most of what’s featured here, this would look like artwork in a sea of jellybean-shaped “crossovers.” Plus as usual green draws me in.

I’ve got an all American Mom like that. She was happy with whatever Buick Dad bought. I did think Jan was pretty cute though.

I don’t think you can call this an AC delete. Back in the old days everything was an option on this car including power steering and brakes, well by 76 the power steering and brakes may have been standard but high content cars were reserved for the high line models but still may not have had AC. Otherwise
this is a pretty good car but weighed down by mandated bumpers, safety and pollution controls.

    Great find. Price is reasonable.

Surprised it has not been grabbed up.

I’d put ALL the running gear and drive packages from an all wheel drive Hemi Charger under this car. I’d Definitely add ac & tint the windows to reduce the solar heat gain. Good luck to the new owner and seller.

When I was a kid my dad was issued a work car and all that he had over the years were Plymouth, the last one I remember was kind of a light blue and it had a 400 ci Lean burn sticker on the air cleaner. It was a decent car I guess, but what I really remember was when you stomped the loud pedal it would shift down and wouldn’t up shift again till over 100 mph. I was in high school driving a warmed up 72 GMC pickup with a 4:56 rear gear, I don’t think that would get to 100 mph without things starting to FLOAT!!!!
