One Family Owned: 1979 Ford F250 Ranger Lariat

This 1979 Ford F250 Lariat is said to be completely original. It has a few dings and dents, and possibly a hint of minor rust, but overall it looks to be a solid survivor. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. Located in Anderson, California, it is being offered for sale with a clear title. At the time of writing, bidding had only reached $1,000.

According to the ad, this Lariat was originally purchased by the owner’s grandfather, and grandpa was the sort of person who liked to make a statement. Therefore, he purchased this particular truck because he wanted the top of the line. The truck itself is in quite good condition, especially if it is truly an unrestored workhorse. There are a few minor dings in the bodywork, and it is obvious that the bed has seen some work, but this appears to be the only rust present in the vehicle. The lack of rust is hardly surprising since the truck has spent its life in California.

The interior of the Lariat is in neat and original condition, with only a few minor issues to deal with. The upholstery on the seat is torn, so it will require a new cover. The door trims look good, but the door pockets are sagging. This may be able to be rectified by threading new elastic into the seams of the pockets. It looks like there might be an aftermarket radio/cassette player fitted to the truck, but otherwise, the interior looks to be original and in good condition.

A top of the line truck deserves a top of the line engine, and the Lariat doesn’t disappoint on that front. Grandpa definitely liked the best, and the 460ci V8 fitted to this truck produced around 230hp. This engine is backed by an automatic transmission. The seller states that the engine is original and that it goes really well. The only changes that have been made to the vehicle has been the fitting of two new batteries, and also the fitting of four new tires. The truck is also fitted with air conditioning, and given the fact that the seller states that everything works as it should, that indicated to me that the A/C is functional.

Looking at similar trucks in the market at present indicates that a really nice, original Lariat with a 460 V8 will fetch around $15,000. There doesn’t appear to be a reserve set on this auction, and I find that rather interesting. I have been able to locate this particular vehicle advertised on consignment with two different firms with a price of $9,450. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what this Lariat finally sells for.

I’d bet this truck was purchased by the flipper from the grandkid. Nice example, and who lets a family heirloom like that go anyway?

Still my favorite configuration of a pickup. Regular cab, and a longbed.

Considering the consignment fee, it seems that the seller is leaving money on the table with this one.

Wow, I really want this truck. I’ve had several of these ’73-’79 Fords, and they are real workhorses for those in the trades. I could definitely see my 48″ wood Johnson (I mean my level) hanging on the rack in the back window.

    460 – NOT a daily driver.

Lovely looking truck. Although 1978-80 aren’t my favourite years for the Ford F-series truck, I love the condition of this truck. I’ve always loved original survivors.

Nice truck, but lose those stupid running boards! They are definitely not factory original to this truck!

Had one 30 years ago with a built 429. I could floor it and watch the needle on the fuel gauge fall, but I had fun doing it.
