One Family Owner: 1980 Jeep Wagoneer

Right now, this clean 1980 Jeep Wagoneer looks like a potential bargain given how cheaply it’s bidding. Offered as a one-family owned survivor at no reserve, the current bid of $5,999 seems more than fair for a Wagoneer that remains this well preserved. The seller notes it is equipped with Quadra-Trac 4WD, rear trailer hitch, engine block heater, a power rear gate window, and more. Even the AMC factory CB radio still works! Find it here on eBay and located in Michigan.

While the later models with their acres of woodgrain trim get all the glory, these earlier models are equally as handsome, and I’ve always felt the taillamp design was one of the most elegant designs to ever grace a 4×4. The body shows a few dings and blemishes in places but is largely presentable. However, that lower fender and rear quarter areas are two spots of concern for the next owner, and close-up photos in the listing show a fair amount of corrosion lurking underneath. Still, I’m sure there’s a donor vehicle out there somewhere that can offer up the necessary replacement panel.

The interior is good news all around, with no obvious flaws to report. Sure, there are signs of use throughout, but nothing I’d be worried about in the short term. The dash doesn’t show any cracks and the instrument cluster glass looks nice and clear, and the seller describes the seats as being in “like new” condition. The seller notes the headliner is not hanging down and the carpets are clean, and even more important given the nature of people who tend to own these things, there’s no evidence of a dog enjoying the comfortable confines of the Wagoneer. It’s a non-smoker vehicle, too.

Despite the body rot, the seller says the Jeep runs quite well. He says it’s “…smooth and has no vibrations,” which hopefully indicates the suspension is in good order. Recent service work includes new tires and brakes; a new radiator; coolant and transmission flush; and a fresh battery. It comes with the original owner’s manual, jack, and and crow bar, along with other nice-to-have original bits. The seller mentions this was a reserve listing, but given there’s no sign of it now, the current bid is enough to take it home. Think it will go any higher?

Surprised that someone at Wagonmaster didn’t jump on this!

Replete with AM/FM/CEEBEE radio and quartz LCD clock, this is THE machine to do an updated version of the Press On Regardless Rally!!!

If nothing else, fix the rot and make it pay for itself as an Uber/Lyft/whatever ride to the ski slopes as you show those AMG G63’s what being “all that and a bag o’ chips” is really all about…🤣

Always loved these- iconic, classic styling. It’s probably been done, but I’d love to see someone put the indestructible 4.0 in one. Slightly better mpg, way better reliability.
