The Ferrari Mondial was a mid-engine, V8-powered grand tourer that was produced from 1980 to 1993. The “t” was a variant that came along later in the car’s run. The name came from the French word meaning “global” which we assume implied that it was intended for discerning (and wealthy) buyers almost anywhere. This beautiful example is from 1992 and has had the same owner for more than 20 years. Having had some major work done over time, it appears ready for the buyer’s next adventure. Located in Palm Springs, California, this lesser-seen Ferrari is available here on craigslist for $64,500. Rocco B. comes through again with another hot tip!
This might be considered a rare automobile in that barely more than 1,000 copies of the cabriolet like this one were assembled between 1988 and 1993 when the “t” was on the market. The car is a 2+2 meaning that 4 people can ride in it, but the ones in the back better be children as legroom is almost non-existent. The Mondial holds the distinction of being the last Ferrari to come with the combination of a mid-engine V8 and the 2+2 configuration. The “t” was treated to a larger quad-cam engine (210 cubic inches rated at 300 hp), but we understand that the motor and the car in general require greater maintenance than many may expect.
As the story goes, this Ferrari has been a California car all its life, and the paint, top, and interior color mix is said to be not too common. Even though the auto has just 37,000 miles on the odometer, we’re told it’s had three “major engine-out” servicing over its lifetime. Replacement parts mentioned include the timing belt, water pump, steering, and tires. Everything else is said to be good, and the car drives how you would expect a Ferrari to perform.
This looks like a stunning automobile that even Thomas Magnum (Magnum P.I.) could possibly be seen in, though in the TV series, he tooled around in a Ferrari 308 GTS Quattrovalvole. This blue “sports car” looks to have been well-kept and probably doesn’t need anything right now. But given its service history, be sure you have additional funds on hand to keep the machine mechanically happy.
Covered by Barn Finds’ own Todd Fitch in April of this year. Memorable for its unusual and attractive colors. Price drop by $1000 this go around. Could probably have it with a reasonable offer. I think those colors are probably holding it back; Ferrari buyers are probably looking for the more traditional red, white, yellow, etc., this might be a little too “flamboyant (?)” for most. I’m not surprised that it’s in Palm Springs. Locals will know what I mean.
The last car i sold was just this in red, a 92 Mondial, it was my first and last Ferrari, i did many car shows and had a ton of fun, but did the right thing and sold it. This blue one has been floating around for a long time.
24 photos and none of the engine?
T P D, you are 101% right, i was going to say that i sold mine while my head was still above water.
I’ve owned two Ferraris: a 348ts, and an F355 Spyder. Loved the driving experiences, especially the beautiful sounds, and made money on both. In other words, I couldn’t disagree more. Truly fantastic automobiles.
Out of all the Ferrari cars this was their worst car produced. It was basically built for the American market and not built to Ferrari standards. Poor quality by Ferrari standards.
Now if the exterior was Black. Mondial is another GT4 situation. The GT4 finally is taking off in price and acceptability.
Discriminant is a mathematical term. Discriminating is an adjective.
Top Gear’s Jeremy said these Ferarris are dogs. He didn’t like this model at all. I’m no Ferarri expert, so what are your thoughts?
