With production of 300,000 units in 1969, the Ford Mustang was still the market leader among “pony cars”. But that was half of the record year that was 1966. Nearly 15,000 Mustangs built in 1969 were convertibles, and the seller says this one of 1 of 485 assembled with an inline-6 and an automatic transmission. It’s also said to be a one-owner car that was parked 30 years ago, so the passage of time and Mother Nature have begun to take over. Located east of Kent, Washington, this open-air project is available here on craigslist for $5,500.

Ford refreshed the Mustang’s styling in 1969, adding an extra set of peepers but only for one year. The cars were a little bigger again, but still outsold the Chevy Camaro by 50,000 units, even though the latter car had a 15-month production run that year. A lot of Mustangs came with six-cylinder engines, and the one in the seller’s car displaces 250 cubic inches. But fewer than 500 buyers decided to order a convertible that way without a manual transmission. This car looks to have left the factory with gold paint and an ivory interior.

Some of the information provided doesn’t exactly sync. For example, is the mileage 67,554 or 76,554, but they were piled on by a single owner? We’re told the car was parked in 1996, yet it was last driven in 2014, so maybe that means they would run it around the yard every now and then. No mention is made of its mechanical health now. Its condition is listed as “good,” but that sounds optimistic for a project.

Several photos are provided of the floorboards, so we assume the seller believes they are solid. The paint is well-baked, the interior exposed to the elements, and the condition of the convertible top isn’t discussed. Overall, it’s said to be a complete car, and the seller is willing to deliver it locally to the buyer. And it sounds like the asking price is negotiable. Thanks for the drop-top tip, “Curvette”.
