One-Year-Only Convertible: 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix

With a lifespan of four decades and millions of examples produced, the Pontiac Grand Prix isn’t exactly a difficult car to find in the marketplace, but there are a few rarities among the many offerings that are always exciting to run across.  The 1967 model stands out as the only one that ever offered a convertible in the lineup, with some 5,856 buyers opting for the droptop, so these are fewer and farther between than many of the others.  This 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix here on Facebook Marketplace seems like a solid example overall, and with summer coming, this one might be worth checking out if you’re in the market for a sixties ragtop.  The car is located in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and comes with an asking price of $14,500.  Pnuts, thanks a lot for your fun tip here!

The Grand Prix got some fresh front-end styling for the ‘67 model, which featured concealed headlights for the first time, giving the car a smoother appearance from that perspective.  The seller doesn’t give much information regarding the car’s history and lists the condition as fair, but it seems somewhat better unless I’m missing something.  No word on whether the body has gotten any repairs or how old the paint is, but the panels appear straight, and the finish looks decent enough for a driver, although the top frame rails don’t currently have a canvas on them.

The 400 is said to be the original engine, with the owner reporting a total of 124,000 miles.  It’s stated as running cool and having good oil pressure, with quite a few recent fuel-system components such a new carburetor, sending unit, pump, and lines, along with the gas tank being cleaned out and resealed.  There’s also a new starter, radiator, thermostat, and hoses.

One section that may need to be evaluated is the left rear shock mount, which got cracked due to a frozen shock absorber.  The seller shows that a piece of metal has been bolted in as a fix, and while this may be sufficient, I’d probably let somebody who’s more skilled in this area than I make that determination.  Fortunately, the rear frame rails appear solid, so hopefully, the rest of the undercarriage is this good as well.

Things inside also appear nicely preserved for the most part, especially for a convertible, and it’s good to see that this one’s got bucket seats and a console.  Power windows and a tilt wheel are gratifying accessories to find here, plus all of the gauges are stated as functional.  A peek inside the trunk shows a pan that looks amazing, and overall, I’m feeling pretty confident about this 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix convertible.  How about you?

Not my kinda car but it looks very nice. The black wheels and WLT’s don’t add a thing, the car is too upscale for that. 8 lug wheels and black walls would be a huge improvement.

8 lugs come with it. And they do definitely need to be installed tho I’d go with the thin whitewall from that era.

I’d be cool with that too. I have those on my 40 and 50. 60s I’d probably go with a 3/4 personally but the 2.5s would look good too. Maybe get Ai to mock it up both ways?

The 67 Granb Prix Cov. Is a classic. This one seems to be price fairly and wouldn’t take much to make it a first class drop top.

These are great looking cars. There’s a Black one at
Duncan Motors in Christiansburg,VA that has a 4 speed
    in it.
    If I remember,they’re asking something like $70,000
for it,which would make this a bargain.

Love these 60s Pontiac but will never have one without AC not even with a canvas top.
That being said this looks to be a decent example of those years. My first Pontiac was a 67 Catalina 2 dr ht. It was a beautiful ride. The AC controls in those old Pontiac were better than any of the automatic AC built later. It was simple to adjust your temp and let it ride.

My buddy Harold had a beige one in the early 70’s after he got his divorce and made a commitment to chasing women. His car always looked better with a good looking girl in it, and it was very good at it’s role in enticing them. It also doubled as a utility vehicle, when four of us went “spotlighting” down in Midlothian bagging rabbits with the top down in February. Ahh, growing up in Texas.
Seems like his had the 8 lug Kelsey Hayes wheels. Big wheels for a very big car.
