Chrysler had a lot of choices in the late 1960s when it came to muscle cars. Plymouth had the GTX and Road Runner, while Dodge offered the Charger R/T and Super Bee. But there was a third Dodge product that is less remembered today, the Coronet R/T. It came with a 440 cubic inch V8 as standard and was only produced from 1967 to 1970. This ’70 Coronet R/T is no longer original in terms of engine or paint, but it’s said to be a good running car you can use until you can get around to the cosmetics. Located in Mineola, Texas, this interesting Mopar is available here on eBay. $8,400 is the latest bid and the reserve is still looming.
Because the Coronet was the family car in the mid-size Dodge lineup, buyers may have forgotten it could be one beefy offering. Just 2,408 were built in 1970 during its swan song year. Of those, 2,172 were 2-door hardtops like the seller’s vehicle (another 236 were convertibles). Only a handful were built with the monster 426 Hemi, and the seller’s car had the 440 but with the N96 cold air induction system. This auto no longer has its original motor and the N96 won’t work with the 383 “stroker” that’s under the hood now (increased to 426 cubic inches, by coincidence?).
Under the grey primer, this Dodge once had FY4 Light Gold Metallic paint. And in various places, you’ll find some Synergy Green that the seller was going to shift to but changed his/her mind. A white vinyl top used to be in place, but it’s gone, too. Both rear quarter panels were changed due to corrosion as was the trunk floor, but the panel below the back glass needs attention. The hood retains its factory pins as does the interior its buckets seats and console.
We’re told this is a good running muscle car and used regularly. The gauges have gone digital, the wiring harness is new, and the headlights are also new (but look 21st Century). Both bumpers have been sprayed with grey primer, and hopefully you can go back to chrome as original. The seller has some videos of the car in action, and you’ll have to send a note to get links to them as they’re not posted in the listing. The seller also mentions a Buy It Now price option but neglected to include it in the pricing section.
Very ugly rims.
Should have taken the money spent on the stupid wheels and led lights and had the seats re upholstered IMO.
I agree 100%!
These are so cool. It’s almost like Chrysler said we’re going to run this loop bumper thing and GM is going to notice. The coke bottle design was going away so this probably for shock value. Also this may be the coolest rear window ever.
The firebird had a loop bumper ’67-’73, & so did big pontiacs & GTO ’68-’72.
Exactly
front end was made to resemble the SUPER BEES face…hoop bumpers are goggle rims while valance is bees mouth grimacing
That loop bumper sucked says the owner of a ’69 Super Bee!!!!
About twenty years ago a guy in my town had an orange one of these in beautiful condition. He always parked it on the side of the road near the highway exit. Then one day I drove by and it was parked in the same place but was totally burned to a crisp. So sad of a once nice car.
The hood will work going from 440 to 383. With either carb spacer or adaptor on top of carb along with original air cleaner. Won’t work going 383 to 440. I found that out the hard way. Closed the hood and broke the ram air system in half. Too many cars right now. Would love to have this one. Prefer 1969’s but this will do!
What size motor is in it now? Also does it have 4sd or 3speed. How is the frame? And is the floor, trunk have rust?Allso are the brakes drums?
The ad says it has a B block 426 in it and it’s a 3 speed. The frames are good and the trunk floor is new. Looks like it has 4th gen Camaro discs on the front, and it definitely has a first gen Camaro front spoiler on it. It looks like a pro-touring money pit that the owner’s lost interest in. It’s all in the ebay listing.
Some answers are in seller’s description.
MM beat me to it…

It amazes me how people who are out to sell a car can’t come up with better pictures of what they’re selling. From what I can (barely) see of the interior, it looks like all that’s needed is the correct upholstery. Find the correct rims and a date-code correct 440 and I might be okay taking this one as is, just not for what the seller’s BIN probably is.
Dan
If you are going for stock that pained rear bumper with custom exhaust through it would have to be changed along with your other just: a new interior trim original gauges a headlights and wiring and o yeah only a date correct 440
Wow talking bucks there better just leave resto mod with paint and seat upholstery me thinks but I have never ever left a vehicle stock so that’s just me
I love this except the oversized wheels
Not much work to get this one back up and running compared to the Mopar heaps that we regularly see here.
All yours for 42K, at least what it’s posted for on FB along with a 66 and 67.
I owned a 70 plumb crazy SuperB it had 69 B side scoops on it. back then i thought they were factory? also had a 361 eng. pontiac buckets. white ball shifter(eh!)….all i wanted for Christmas was a pistol grip! it was laying in a puddle of water in the trunk. only needed was a throw out bearing and TLC.
Another scary posting with pictures but hey what do I know…..
The 70 Coronet RT hood is the best looking of that era. This car only needs go mango paint and a white vinyl top.
SOLD for 35K.
