Original 454/4-Speed: 1973 Chevrolet Corvette

This 1973 Chevrolet Corvette ticks so many desirable boxes that it is impossible to choose its greatest attribute. It is a two-owner vehicle that presents superbly following a meticulous restoration. It has a genuine 40,000 miles showing on its odometer, but some may contend that its numbers-matching big-block is the standout feature. This classic needs nothing and is ready for its new owner to drive it from its current location to their garage. Barn Finder Curvette has a finely-tuned classic radar, and I must say a big thank you for referring this Corvette to us. The seller has listed this beauty here on eBay in Troy, Michigan. They set their BIN at $49,950 with the option to make an offer.

The 1973 model year was a transitional one for the C3 Corvette. The chrome front bumper had gone the way of the dodo by the end of 1972, joined by the Coupe’s removable rear window and the often-trouble-plagued vacuum-operated wiper door. The chrome back bumper received a stay of execution, but would disappear at the end of 1973. This ’73 Coupe has a known history, with the current owner becoming its custodian in 1977 when it had 28,000 miles on the clock. They haven’t tried to wear this beauty out, because the odometer now shows almost exactly 40,000 miles. They treated the beast to a meticulous restoration in 2003, and the fact that it still presents superbly reflects the care it has received since. The process included frame restoration and a repaint in the car’s original shade, Code 927 Dark Blue Metallic. Its presentation appears flawless, an impression accentuated by the crystal-clear glass and the immaculate Rally wheels. The seller provides an excellent image gallery that shows the frame is rock-solid, and I can’t spot any birdcage issues.

Although the company never stated it, Chevrolet’s big-block was living on borrowed time under the Corvette’s hood by the time this one left the line. It would soldier on until the end of 1974, marking the end of an era that commenced in 1965. This ‘Vette features its numbers-matching 454ci V8, teamed with a four-speed manual transmission. Vehicle manufacturers during this era were coy when quoting engine power figures, but the 1973 Corvette Sales Brochure states that this big-block will deliver 275hp. The seller confirms that the current owner recently treated this classic to a new radiator, new stainless steel brake calipers, a stainless steel exhaust, a new clutch, and new tires. The ownership history should make verifying the mileage claim straightforward. However, the buyer might add to the tally as they drive this turnkey classic from its current location to their driveway.

The interior delivers a slice of news that may prompt some enthusiasts to consider this Corvette refurbished rather than restored. The Trim Tag shows a Code 413, confirming that the first owner ordered the car with the interior trimmed in Midnight Blue vinyl. However, these seatcovers look like leather to me, although the seller doesn’t mention a change in the listing. If we accept that update, there is a lot to like, because the presentation is first-rate. The seats sport the wrinkles that typically develop with elegant aging, while the remaining trim and the carpet are spotless. The console isn’t scratched or marked, and there are no visible aftermarket additions. The first owner elected to equip the interior with air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM radio. Therefore, life aboard this classic should be pretty comfortable.

So, what’s not to like about this 1973 Corvette? From its spotless presentation to its low odometer reading and the mechanical specifications, it seems to tick every box enthusiasts seek when searching for a C3 Corvette. The sticking point for some might be the price, but there are factors to consider before dismissing this beauty. It sits at the market’s top end, but it isn’t unprecedented. It is also worth noting that, with values increasing rapidly, this could be an excellent long-term investment. The listing statistics suggest this Corvette hasn’t generated the level of interest you might expect, although it is only early days. Do you think the situation will change? Only time will tell.

This would be a good car to use for reference when restoring another, the factory overspray, tags, all that original equipment on it too. Beautiful car, they pampered this one.

This is written in its description….

Please note that it is a numbers matching 454- 4-speed with Air Conditioning and painted the original color.

I’m merely suggesting the repaint may or may not be representative of factory… Or am I reading this incorrectly?
This ’73 is perfection to me! I love it!

The horses went away in 1972 as a new, more realistic way of measuring horsepower was used. Compression also went down to 8.25:1.The 275 quoted is roughly 325 at the crank, which still isn’t bad. Lots of torque!

Ok. I own a 73 anf the price is very optimistic. Beautiful yes, but a 5,000 mile original sold recently for $28,000. And why put leather seat covers without the rest of custom interior, optional, which included carpeted door panels with wood grain, better carpet and a REAL wood console applique. 73s are the best looking C3s especially with that butt ugly front license plate bracket and no luggage rack, or barbeque grille as I call it. Price way too high. It is a dealer.

Something fishy with this one. Frame restoration on a car with 40K original miles? Why rust-proofing on the frame instead of paint? Body prep around tail lights isn’t smooth. Photos look good but close exam is needed before forking over premium bucks for a ’73.

Over all this is a good looking car. I like the upgrades they put in it . As for the price I agree with George . I think it’s Werth about $25000 to $30000.
