If you’ve ever wanted a really nice original classic truck, you can’t get much better than this 1937 Ford pickup. It can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $12,900. There are a ton of directions you could take this truck in. How about returning it to stock looking? How about a mild hot rod, cool patina ride, or full custom? There are endless possibilities. Being sold by Enswell Speed & Fab in Farmington, Utah, this is a really nice truck. Take a look.
The Flathead V8 measures 4.2 liters and is said to run and “lot drives.” The brakes are said to work with the only real issue being some rust issues on the frame. It appears there may have been some aftermarket maintenance things done under the hood, which is just fine. The carburetor looks clean and the rest of the engine looks fairly original except for the cooling system. I believe the radiator hoses and radiator have been upgraded along with a fan shroud.
Overall, the interior looks pretty typical of a truck from this era, although the dash looks like it’s great. The wood floors look like they need a little bit of fit and finish. The bench seat has some springs poking out and clearly needs re-upholstered including new padding. The gauges are very cool looking. Hopefully, they can be re-built and re-used.
As you would expect, there are some dents and dings on the truck, but the overall impression is really cool. This one would be hard to pass up if you were in the market for a 30s classic truck. How about you? What would you do with this truck if it was yours?

Nice truck….frames not that hard to come by….same frame from 37 to 41 on trucks and 37 to 40 on cars. Picked up a nice flathead frame set up from someone up grading to a pro mod frame.

or simply note the engine is 3/4 the size of the “normal” flathead, when the generator dwarfs the engine, it is a 60hp
Most definitely a V8-60. Henry’s answer to customer requests for a more economical 6 cyl. engine. As I’ve mentioned before, Henry hated 6 cyl. engines and resisted putting one out as long as he could. The V8-60 was everyone’s answer to fuel economy and that engine cost almost as much to build as the V8-85. It was fairly reliable but it wouldn’t pull a limp noodle out of a pail of lard. There was one guy in our antique auto circles who ran one in a ’37 Ford coupe. He said it went OK but he added that it was far better going downhill with a brisk tailwind.
Now for this one. You could just park it at my place and I’ll be glad to restore it and drive it. Of course, I would be very tempted to install a V8-85. I might even be tempted to install a 59AB which happens to be in my shop. I’ll just paint the engine dark green and see how long it takes for others to catch on. Then I would drive it.
A 4.2? It must be a later Mercury 255 flathead. Unless it’s a type O.

Am I the only one that even considers price gouging on something like this? The Minnesota guy would ask $2 grand, tops. I’m sorry, 161 watchers and no bids, I’d love to say, “Ha-Ha”,, but this is America, and nothing stops them from doing this baloney. You couldn’t possibly leave it like this, when was the last time you drove a 4,000 lb. vehicle with 60hp and mechanical brakes? ’39 the 1st year for juice brakes, old Henry finally gave in, saying mechanical brakes were safer, and he wasn’t that far off. Great to see, only 3 years were made, but come on, 5 figures, really? I think the ’59 Bug for the same price is a better deal.
I have to admit that I seldom look at the price when I see a rig like this; I just look at the rig itself and fantasize it being at my place. Yes, there are a lot of people suffering from BJ Syndrome but it’s a lot easier to start high and slide down than to try to work your way up. If BJ Syndrome applied to all of us, I would be sitting on a veritable fortune instead of having a yard full of junk…
So how much can a v8 truck like this pull trailer wise?
With a V8-60, not very much. I could haul a ton of fertilizer with my ‘47, but it was also a 100 HP. I knew a guy with a ‘50 F1 that regularly pulled a 2-horse trailer c/w horses and tack. A V8-85 was a tough engine and it could haul a good load. I well remember ‘36 and up Ford 1 1/2 ton trucks hauling 250 bushel loads. A bushel of wheat weighs 60+ lbs.
