Package Deal: Treasure Chest of Trucks

We regularly see barn finds that are offered as package deals. Usually, they’re 2-for-1’s where one of the vehicles is a restorable project and the other is a parts car. But when several are clustered together and the asking price is high, you have to wonder if the proper effort is being put forward. For example, here on craigslist, we find three SUVs and two pickup trucks that may or may not be complete, all need restoring, and the asking price is $125,000 for the lot in Glendale, Arizona. An offering like this is waiting on the one single party out there who has the desire and financial wherewithal to buy the seller out. This tip comes by the pound from barn finder T.J.!

The seller (or perhaps an heir) is or was a fan of 1970s General Motors hardware. The two trucks are Chevrolet K10 (1/2 ton 4X4) models from 1970 and 1972. The C/K series of Chevy trucks was revised in 1967 and the design would run through 1972. They were marketed as the “Action Line” of pickups and would also provide the basis for the K5 Blazer, an off-road SUV (before they were called that). The seller’s two machines from this group are shown the same way as the rest, parked close together and nose-to-wall, making it difficult to ascertain the condition of each.

On the other hand, the seller has a 1971 K5 Blazer and two more from the following year. These vehicles rode on a shorter-wheelbase version of the K-series pickup truck, and an open-top Blazer/ Jimmy (over at GMC) was among the first widely produced sport-utility vehicles. All five of these vehicles are said to have their original VIN plates with matching glove box SPID sheets (Service Parts Identification) and matching frame numbers.

Besides the vehicles themselves, a bunch of new and extra parts are included. This consists of a spare original top (Blazer), doors, a hood, and fenders. Not all of the “trucks” have engines or transmissions and we don’t know what hardware is included with the ones that do. The seller is adamant that he/she will not part out this assortment. They must all go together. What would you give for this treasure chest of trucks?

The back off mud flaps on the green one makes it most valuable out of the bunch.

If You want 125 k then take some serious pictures. 25 k a truck with some parts thrown in for this? Pfffft.

Anything is ultimately the price anyone is willing to pay. Adding $100,000 over the actual value is a bold move, but again it only takes one person ignorant or oblivious enough to fall for it.

That would equate to $25,000 a piece. Not today. Probably not tomorrow either.

Wow! Someone has been watching too much mecum on tv. The trucks all have value, but even $5k apiece is high if some don’t have engines. My guess is he’ll get a lot of replies like “hahahahahaha” and maybe consult someone who knows about vintage vehicles to help him price them. Or they could return to the earth sitting right where they are, but not one is going to pay even one third of that ask.

I’ve had 2 each of that body style (Blazer, C10) over the years. The C10’s were really cool rides as were the Blazers but when I took the tops off the Blazers the doors would knock against the tubs on rougher roads. They were also prone to rust in the rockers and rear wheel wells.

Nice find but 100k to heavy on the price, certainly needs more detailed pics and there are a lot of new parts but need a catalog of what’s included, $25k maybe $30 if there are enough parts just maybe. Still need an in person look before buying

obviously the seller is dreaming, I have seen 67/72 Blazer’s / Jimmy’s running and driving in same condition for less than $15,000. plus it’s hard to find a buyer that wants to buy that many vehicles at one time, he would be better off selling them separately!

The new format is a clickbait , if you want to see a new comment , you must click onto the site and that generates money because you see the ads
      Its easy money for barnfinds

@Claudio – Not true! We had modify the comment notifications because people kept replying to the emails rather than posting on the site. Besides, click bait is when you post something deceiving to get clicks.

@Gary – Are you talking about the comment notifications or something else? The notifications are the only thing we have changed recently.
