Dodge introduced the Charger in early 1966 as part of their “Dodge Rebellion” marketing campaign. It was a mid-size personal luxury car with fastback styling and bucket seats for all four passengers. The Charger was not a huge success in its first two years but took off with the B-body redesign of 1968-70. The seller has a second-year Charger that runs well with a 318 cubic-inch V8 but is going to need time in the body shop to be fully sorted out. The first Charger was a late arrival in 1966, so the 1967s saw few noticeable changes. Hidden headlights were still a Charger staple, and you could get the car with any Dodge engine up to and including the 426 Hemi. 1966 editions found 37,000 buyers while the 1967 versions saw a big drop to 15,000 units with no reason that we can find. Besides the 318 V8, this ’67 Charger has a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, both of which are said to do their jobs well. Yet the odometer isn’t far from turning over at 95,000 miles.
Researching the VIN on this car shows that it appears to be original. The seller has owned it for two years, and the well-worn silver/grey paint (primer?) may be hiding some variant of red when you inspect the area around the VIN plate and under the hood. The upholstery looks to be in good shape, but the interior will need a new carpet set. We’re told some rust will have to be dealt with, but it looks far from being major.
A new carburetor is on board and adds to how well the car runs. Should you decide you want to add a big-block V8 for more performance, the seller is throwing in a kit to help with the transformation (BYOE – Bring Your Own Engine). The 1966-66 Chargers are the rarest of the ones built in that decade and the next, so this could be an attractive ride once restored.
