Plethora of Pontiac Projects and Parts!

If you’ve ever wanted to fill your entire shop with projects at one time, this may be your chance. Found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $65,000, this is a pretty big stash of late 70’s cars. Located in Springfield, Massachusetts, any potential buyers would be wise to consider packing and shipping costs before making an offer. If you own a Pontiac restoration shop, this may be the chance to boost your inventory. Thanks to Barn Finds reader AMXBrian for the tip on this stash.

The ad states there are cars ranging from 1971 to 1979 with most being from ’77 to ’79. There’s no indication exactly how many cars are included in the purchase, but from the photos you can see about ten different ones in various states of disassembly. There is also a bunch of extra parts including engine, suspension, transmission and interior.

Here you can see the interior of one of the more complete cars. It’s a bit dusty, but looks in good condition. There are also miscellaneous engine parts everywhere. It is a little hard to tell exactly what brought all these cars together and why they are in various stages of tear-down.

There is probably $65,000 worth of parts here, but it will take a specific buyer to buy the whole bunch. With all these parts, a skilled restorer could probably make two or three good cars. It would be a huge undertaking of time though. What do you think? What will be the fate of all these cars?

I think he meant all the dirt and dust goes with the cars.

Yes, Ford’s “El Camino” – front half car (Torino in this case) and rear pick up truck bed. Craiglist ad, click on it, middle photos, Green Ranchero with a black hood. Not an expert but looks like 1970 ish. I am more an early El Camino Expert. Ford came out the the 50/50 concept in production in 1957 with the first Ranchero and the El Camino debuted in 1959 for 2 years then stopped for a few years to return in 1964.

Probably $65K worth of stuff here BUT a whole lotta work to get it out of there, figure out what you have and then deal with it. Might be a diamond in the rough but I see more ROUGH than a diamond!

Thank you Tom, i would never have been brave enough to have clicked on Craigslist here as i have been warned not to do so by my PC repairman years ago. He’s also steered me away from Yahoo. Wow that Ford is probably the best car their. I like that Camaro plus that gold bird too. I bet Richard R. (loves green cars) of Gas Monkeys Fast an Loud gets them all at half price. Or maybe be Tomas of Misfit gets there first.

Always wondered if anybody would want to restore late 70s cars that couldn’t get out of their own way and were barely drive-able in original condition.

Sounds like your mostly thinking of the mighty Yugo or Chevett or a Vega going up hill or Gremlin, & VW bus/Vanagain. Sorry if i didn’t spell them all correctly, but i’m happy too not have them in my Vocabulary, ha,ha. An nearly 70’s Premium gas fed V-8 > Cuda, GTX, Road Runner, Charger, Challenger, Z-28 Camaro, Chelvele, Corvette, Nova, Mustang , GTO, & TransAm could burn lots of rubber too. Hell, i got clocked at 140 MPH going up hill on 57 Fwy. in my 1973 350 Sm. Block Turbo 400 Monte Carlo with only a few tire burning modifications, ha, ha,. Like Trick Shift Fluid, Tuned Headers, Electronic Distributor, Sig Erson street cam, Special 202 Pistons, 202 valves a expertly tuned Q- Jet 4 barrel, no Smog Pump, a kill switch on the Alternator, a little Taller Gear in the rear, & a heavier Harmonic Balancer. Plus the A/C worked good, plus the engine came from my 1973 RS twisted body Camaro.

The price seems reasonable considering how much Firebirds are going for these days.

Transportation on the other hand would be very high.

it would take a long time to round up everything I ( we) see in the pics , not to mention sorting them, as there seems to be no tags on anything. yes, for nostalgia’s sake . you’d have to hire a bunch of ppl ( or a family) from the quick look we’re getting they appear to be in good shape .. but, alas MA winters and the possibility of them being used during their winters ..

Would i go to hell if i turned them all into Camaro’s with the Thunder Chicken on their hoods? I love Chevy’s, but i do love Trans AM decal hoods.

That’s either an ’80 or ’81 Z/28 in the bunch. My guess is RR at GM and his friend DC are giving this a look.

I assume everything n the pics include the early 70’s Datsun or Toyota, the Lexus, and the forklift in the back of the shop too?
Can someone tell me why a person disassembles just about every part of a car then end up selling it? (ie: engines and transmissions).
One guy my brother worked with had an early 80’s Camaro Z28, black with gold stripes and t tops. He had it in a storage unit until he decided he didn’t want to pay for storage anymore. Told us come get the car and it is all yours. Just get everything out of the unit.
Everything was disassembled. all sheet metal that was bolted on was unbolted, windows removed, interior disassembled, motor, trans, and rear disassembled.
I get disassembling for restoration, but why blow the drivetrain apart too all at the same time. miscellaneous parts everywhere. I considered taking everything home and reassembling, but nothing was labeled and everything was scattered in the unit.
In the end, due to moving and not having the storage space anymore, I sold all the bolt on rust free sheet metal. Wanted $500, but got $200. Body went for scrap to clear out his storage unit.
This was what was called a ‘complete’ basket case.
Recommend that people that want to take on a restoration, know their limitations and at least disassemble in an organized fashion to facilitate reassembly.

Not to nitpick, but the t-tops on the blue T/A are aftermarket so probably does not have the roof reinforcement used in the factory versions.

Well…. it looks like someone got stiffed on his monthly payments ( owner of the building ) and decided to take some legal action to seize everything inside in lieu of back-rent. Just that enormous polyethylene fluid container is sellable to the tune of $8-10k, there is also what looks to be a Mustang Boss / Bullitt in the last photo??!! What are those going for nowadays? $30,000 or so? I would say that you got a deal IF you want to put in that kind of work.
