Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Project

1970 Dodge Challenger RT

There is a long road ahead of this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, even after a lot of work has already been done. It is claimed to be a true U code car, in the original Plum Crazy color. While the seller claims there is no fender tag, they do list the VIN. They also note 5,061 miles and a clean title. The car is located in West Creek, New Jersey and has reached $8,600 by 12 bidders with no indicated reserve. You can view more on eBay.

Sadly, the car does not have numbers matching motor. At least the seller is upfront and clear about that multiple times and even seems apologetic about it. It does have a 440 from another 1970 Mopar product. The seller claims that this motor has matching pistons and a balanced crank. They also will include the original heads and intake with the sale as well. There is no word on if anything runs.

Inside is a Ralley dash that came from the factory. It also has power disc brakes. There are some seats which seem to just be fitted for placement at the moment. No carpeting is present. This car needs a lot more put back together. Thankfully the seller says then have a large amount of parts available and there is photo evidence of all of them. There is a lot of rust in vital areas as you can see in some of the photos.

With all of that rust, the seller has also provided underside photos to get a visualization of any concerns of that area. At the current price, this car might be a worthwhile project. If it starts to creep any higher, someone with larger funding and less desire to do the work themselves might start nipping at it. But at that point, why not just purchase a complete one, like this one?

I remember seeing so many of these go to the crusher. Actually watched a few in person, myself. If we had only knew. I just wish the numbers on these were not so high, then more of us could partake in the fun.

I virtually guarantee you it’s going to creep higher above $8,600! I put the over/under at $20,000. I agree that the project doesn’t make much sense beyond $9k but the market’s pretty crazy now.

I wish we could stop with the whitewalls. It’s 2019 for God’s sake…

I have whitewalls on my old cars. That was going in high style when they were new.

White walls like different color cars w white, red, or blue interior is what made cars beautiful, black walls were for Dodge Darts or Chevy Novas, bottom of the barrel plain Jane cars, my 73 Grand Prix has Spokes and Vogues, people at the car shows say that makes my car, it’s era correct, I don’t know how old you are, and yes it is 2019, you can tell by all the curse words in songs, lucky us, it classic cars do have white walls

This is the HEY DUDE never ever ever
    ever remove the vin tags.

Doesn’t really matter to much other than
color verification as a nom car

The ones currently being auctioned off here are way better values for the money than this roller.

To much money in my opinion for a shell that’s had all the original parts sold off!!! It’s to bad too!! It could be a great ride if the parts were there!!!!

I am not sure what you are looking at but I see several photos showing a lot of loose parts. It is probably still not 100% complete but I would guess that it is about 90% complete.

Had a buddy after senior year in high school trade in his L78 SS 396/375 Chevelle at Mr. Norm’s for a 1970 Challenger 440 six pack 4 speed car, Plum Crazy, white interior, white vinyl top, and the white side stripe… WITH E78x15 whitewall tires with the Challenger Wheel covers! He drove the hell out of that car from the moment he picked it up. Burned the stock tires pretty much immediately, and put on Micky Thompsons on it. It was a VERY quick car in the North Chicago suburbs for a stock car. The engine lasted about 13k miles, he ended up joining the Navy shortly after. Not a Mopar guy at heart, but that thing was exceptionally fast for being totally stock.
