Pontiac’s GTO is usually credited with starting the muscle car craze of the 1960s. From 1964 to the 1970s, the mid-size machine paved the path that a host of others would follow. Based on the lighter Tempest/LeMans, the beast would become a series of its own from 1966 to 1971. The seller’s GTO is the rarer 2-door post model and is a running project with a shorter to-do list. Located in Commerce, Georgia, we’re told it has been in a barn since 1987 and is available here on eBay for $24,000 OBO.
The GTO had its second-best sales year in 1967 at 81,722 units after selling a whopping 96,946 cars in 1966. After a heavy restyle in ’66, the ‘67s had new taillight treatments and a new engine under the hood. A 400 cubic inch V8 came along to replace the 389. Tri-Power carburetion was dropped, but the new motor with a 4-barrel and optional Ram Air was just as potent. The seller’s GTO is a 2-door sedan which saw only bout 7,000 deliveries that year. Hardtops and convertibles rounded out the mix.
We’re told this Pontiac’s engine is numbers-matching and was rebuilt in 1984. But it apparently saw little use before going into hibernation three years later. The TH-400 automatic transmission is also from the factory, but we don’t know if it has been touched. The GTO does have Ram Air induction, and the car will run and drive with recently refreshed brakes. Mechanically, we’re told it needs a new gas tank (rusted or full of junk?).
The body appears to be solid, but the shiny black paint has cracked and broken off in several places, so the seller suggests a redo. The bucket seat interior looks pretty good, though it’s quite dirty and needs detailing, plus a new headliner. All-in-all, this doesn’t appear to be an exhaustive project, and these post GOATs are harder to find than the other body styles.
I would love to purchase this. It’s my dream car 65-67. It’s got great potential to be brought back to show room quality.
This car does not have Ram Air induction, just a Ram Air camshaft, but which one, is it a RA III cam or a RA IV cam? Ran Air cams were a really common swap in the 1980’s, they were cheap, Crane Cams offered them in their blueprint series.
The big selling point for this car is that it’s a post car, as mentioned they are uncommon and lighter than the hardtops. The post GTO’s have had a cult following for decades.

The Ram Air cams were not much to brag about except the Ram Air 4 witch was the first computer designed cam for a Pontiac. The 068 and 744 cams really did not give much of a performance upgrade in RPM,s.. Those numbers are the last three of the part number for Ram Air cams. The Ram Air 4 was 041 and did give a boost in RPM,S because the lifters were of a anti pump up design. Really a good cam especially when mated to a 3:90 or bigger rear gear.
This one could turn into a real Georgia peach 🍑
I’ve been in the GTO hobby for over 50 years and in that time I’ve seen 2 Ram Air 1967 models but many that make that claim or who are clueless. Not a put down but it’s important that people describe cars accurately.
Both 1967 Ram Air cars were on display at the GTO National meet.
Was one a gold car with black guts and factory shoulder belts? I know the owner of that car.
Yes Jeff, I met the owner myself. I was parked about 10 cars away my a 1965, which was awarded best unrestored. I didn’t see that coming and I was honored.
Is that a Hurst- His and Hers shifter I see there? Was that a common option? I briefly owned an all original black CA plate, 67 GTO with the Hurst shifter and sadly sold it for a roof on the house; it’s the only car I regret selling.
Love those shifters Calipag. Nice match to the torquey Pontiac mill.
The Dual gate was included when you ordered the TH400 with a console. Only 1967 and 1968 GTO’s had the Dual Gate.
The data plate indicates it left the factory wearing Linden Green paint, which looks stunning with that white interior.

It’s missing the ram air parts, which were delivered in the trunk.
The seller couldn’t have taken worse pictures of the car if he had been trying to.
This will require big money to redo!
I need a pic of the rear end, tail lights and rear bumper. Show me the dual exhaust tips.
