Quick Re-Sale: 1986 Honda Civic Si

This 1986 Honda Civic Si was a one-owner car located in Oregon when Scotty G. wrote it up in February; we also featured it as one of our classifieds listings. After just barely a month, the second owner is now listing the Civic for sale due to a pending re-location that makes keeping this survivor-grade Si difficult. The car was originally for sale on eBay; now, you’ll find it here on craigslist (and be sure to go here if the ad disappears) for $4,000.

Now living in Wisconsin, the seller claims he is moving and cannot take the car with him. Sure, abrupt moves happen all the time, but you’d think a little planning would have told him buying this car at this time would make life more challenging. I wonder if the reconstructed title that many of you flagged as a concern ended up being more trouble than it was worth; still, the Civic remains in fine condition, assuming it wasn’t pieced back together at some point. In the top photo, you can see the missing beltline trim has yet to be replaced.

When Scotty wrote the car up, the seats were uncovered and looked to be in really good shape – he did note one tear in the driver’s seat but nothing major. Not sure why the driver’s seat is now wearing this ill-fitting shield, but hopefully it hasn’t been further destroyed in such a short time. The seller says the dash is cracked and the driver’s side speaker is dead; otherwise, this seems like the same completely stock and rust-free survivor we saw in February. Did anyone see what it sold for on eBay?

The seller has done an admirable job of changing all the fluids and installed new brake pads and rotors up front. Also noted was a slight surging behavior that the seller claims has “almost” gone away in the past week following new plugs and filters. The air intake has a cracked boot which could also be a culprit of the wonky idle. The seller says “…I love this car; I just don’t need it.” Do any of you want a second chance at this bone stock Civic Si? Thanks goes to Barn Finds reader Chris A. for the find.

These were nice little cars . Easy to maintain or hop-up! Scca had a class for a lot of small imports. Ck the idle air control valve, distributor vacuum advance, and pcv valve for the idle problem. Broken air filter hose won’t cause idle fluctuation.

I liked it when it first popped up, and still like it now. Certainly it needs a little love here & there, but that’s half the fun! This guy is either flipping it (but didn’t really fix much), or the title did turn out to be a big problem. I had one just like this, same year, in the 90’s, and it was a lot of fun! Just bought something else, so I’m not in the market. Hopefully somebody here will scoop this up and do it justice!

The neighborhood I grew up in had speed bumps. There was one section where there were no houses for quite a ways and about 1/4 mile between bumps. Thus it became a 16 year olds drag strip. We would see who could go between the 2 bumps, from stop to stop, the quickest. My friends moms Civic Si was one of the quickest. That was where I learned to respect Honda.
