Chevrolet threw a party in 2003, and the Corvette was the guest of honor. Half a century had passed since the first Corvette hit the market, and the company celebrated by releasing a 50th Anniversary Edition. Featuring a unique paint shade, it sold well beyond the company’s expectations. This Corvette is one of those cars that presents exceptionally well as a genuine survivor. It has 11,000 miles on the clock and is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a high-end driver. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder T.J. for spotting the Corvette listed here on Facebook Marketplace in Sacramento, California. You could drive it home after handing the seller $33,500.

Chevrolet launched the C5 Corvette for the 1997 model year, and after initial modest sales, production numbers remained stable at around the mid-30,000 mark until the last cars left the line in 2004. However, 2003 was significant for the badge, marking fifty years since Chevrolet launched its bold Corvette experiment. It commemorated the occasion with the 50th Anniversary Edition. Originally envisaged as a limited edition, demand was so great that 11,632 buyers happily handed over an extra $5,000 to take one home. That accounts for around 33% of total sales, meaning that the 50th Anniversary isn’t particularly rare. As befits such a vehicle, the 50th Anniversary features a unique paint shade named, unsurprisingly, Anniversary Red. Convertibles featured a Shale power top that matched the interior trim. This car is a genuine survivor that presents nicely. There are no paint or panel problems, and the top fits as tight as a drum. The vehicle is rust-free, and the unique wheels are spotless. With excellent trim and clear glass, this Corvette makes a positive first impression.

The 50th Anniversary Edition featured standard Corvette mechanical components, though the F55 Magnetic Selective Ride Control System was integral to the package. Buyers received a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 producing 350hp and 375 ft/lbs of torque. Most buyers selected the four-speed automatic transmission, but this car’s first owner opted for the rarer six-speed manual. I can’t find exact production figures for the six-speed in the Anniversary Edition, but given that it accounted for only 24% of overall Corvette sales in 2003, it appears relatively rare. Chevrolet wasn’t shy about quoting performance figures, claiming that the Corvette would blitz the ¼-mile in 13.2 seconds on its way to 175mph. Perhaps the best news for potential buyers is that the seller states that this classic is an unmolested survivor with 11,000 miles on the clock. It is a turnkey proposition that will provide the buyer with many years of enjoyable wind-in-the-hair motoring.

Chevrolet pulled out all the stops to make the Anniversary Edition’s interior feel special. All cars received unique Shale leather trim, a heads-up display, climate-control air conditioning, power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, six-way power seats, power mirrors, cruise control, a power telescopic steering column, and a premium stereo with a CD player. This Corvette’s interior presents as impressively as you would rightly expect from any car with such a low odometer reading. The seller uses the word “pristine” in their description, and it seems appropriate. There is no evidence of wear or abuse, and even the relatively pale carpet looks excellent. Overall, the buyer could drive this Convertible with the top lowered and their heart swelling with pride.

This 2003 Corvette 50th Anniversary Edition is an exceptionally tidy driver with a below-average odometer reading. It has no apparent needs, making it perfect for enthusiasts seeking a high-end driver. The seller claims that values for these classics are climbing, although recent sales results don’t reflect that. I believe their asking price is optimistic, but sometimes a car bucks prevailing trends. Do you think that will happen this time, or will the seller have to compromise to send this Corvette to a new home?
