Rare Sunroof Model: 1973 Dodge Charger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Dodge Charger made a significant sales comeback in 1973, gaining 58% more customers than in 1972. Much of that was due to the Charger SE (Special Edition), whose production figures had nearly tripled. The seller has a sweet ’73, which has been the recipient of many new upgrades, mechanical and cosmetic. Located in Sammamish, Washington (try saying that fast three times!), this nifty Mopar is available here on craigslist for $28,500 OBO. Another fine tip brought to us by “Scott.”

Some of the increase in sales may be attributed to the Coronet 2-door having been discontinued earlier. But the growing emphasis of the Charger as a personal luxury car was more probable, and the success of the SE in 1973 is a testament. All that added up to the Charger’s best sales year at nearly 120,000 units. The seller’s car is well-equipped and is said to be 1 of just 556 to be built with a factory sunroof (according to the seller).

A large part of the asking price for this Charger is tied up in a long list of recent work. On the mechanical side, the assortment includes a rebuild of the carb, radiator, and automatic transmission. Also new are the starter, alternator, seals and gaskets, exhaust, fuel pump, brakes, and two tires. Since the mileage is listed as 38,000, we assume the car was sitting for a time and the odometer has turned over.

The seller (or someone else) didn’t stop there. The leather upholstery, carpeting, and dash pad have all been renewed. Those items remaining on the to-do list are a recharge of the factory A/C and fixing one of the power windows (a new motor in the box is provided by the seller). We’re told the paint is original and holding its own, and we assume a 318 V8 sits under the hood (the seller doesn’t say). If you want to see the Dodge in person, the seller provides the name of a shopping center where it is (or will be).

Don’t seem as popular as the mid 70s Collonades, but the models from Mopar and Ford of the era are starting to look better all the time. 👍💁‍♂️

Blue looks good on the Charger.

A shame it wasn’t the bugger engine but in decent shape other than AC and window motor. One would think for asking price that those items would’ve been repaired.

    Good luck with sale !

True and chips ruined one like it in one of their episodes, it was blue with white bucket seats and auto in floor, a beautiful California charger down the drain…

That TV show ruined a lot of cars that became desirable about 10 years after it hit the airwaves. The cars crashed for the show were a dime a dozen, where they filmed there was no attrition due to rust so cars typically met their demise either after they wore out mechanically or were wrecked. It almost didn’t matter how rare or desirable a particular car was, it wasn’t hard to find one in better shape so cars were parted if the had even the slightest rust on a panel that didn’t unbolt or had a couple of minor flaws. At that point in time nobody was interested in saving the cars they used for stunts.

Love blue on any car and miss the color matching Interiors of the 60s-70s. Decent price.

A nice set of understated rims and wider tires would really set off this beauty!
