Ready To Ramble: 1930 Ford Model A Roadster

Ready to ramble where ever you please, this sweet little Ford Model A Roadster is a great entryway into a prewar classic. Having received extensive work and a freshly rebuilt engine, this Model A is a nice condition driver that could stand to have a few details buttoned up along the way. With little time remaining, this Ford is currently bid up to $7,600, or the buy it now option still stands at $13,000. Check it out here on eBay out of Little Compton, Rhode Island.

The recently rebuilt engine has accumulated only 200 miles, and new motor mounts and a correct exhaust were fitted recently. The engine rebuild was handled by Antique Engine rebuilders in Skokie, Illinois, and the engine is reported as being a beautiful runner. A lot of work has gone into this Ford since the seller purchased this car in Maine.

The interior is fairly basic and features new wood for the floors, as well as new floor pans even in the rumble seat section. Although there is still some work needed to get the interior just right. All of the lights and gauges work in this Model A, and the seller puts it the “Ah-ooogah” horn still works.

I really like the fact that this Ford looks like it could be a survivor. The look of the car is great, and with some gentle cleaning, I think it would be great to preserve as is. There does not appear to be any extensive cosmetic damage to this car other than minor sheet metal bend/rip on the rear passenger fender. A fair amount of sheet metal has been replaced in this Ford but thankfully it was all “hidden” metal that did not affect the cars overall appearance. You can find some minor surface rust on the exterior, but I do not think that you could find any rot anywhere on this Ford. Would you ramble right along in this nice Roadster?

Two model A’s in one day! The first had a comment that the splash plates are missing, well, so does the second. The uppermost thing that I find disconcerting is that there is no air filter fitted to either car. On a right hand drive I can understand this as there is no room for one, but on a left hand drive model there is no apparent excuse. A friend of mine here in UK has had a special “U” shaped manifold manufactured for his RHD which works perfectly.

Model A Fords did not come from the factory fitted with an air filter, they were strictly an after market item. And yes, this car is also missing the splash pans.

I’ve been tracking this one too and am slightly surprised by the low bidding considering all the work that has been done. I suspect the admitted title issues might be the drag.

If the work was done correctly on the subrails and other associated sheet metal that should be a big plus. Experienced Model A guys know to always inspect the rear subrails and inner fender panels even when a car appears to have minimal rust through. It’s extremely rare for rot to not be present back there.

This is a diamond in the rough this is another car I’d take if I had a place to put it and a means to buy it. Sorry to you RUSTINA guys but I’d finish restoring it and yes I’d paint it back to original colours. Nice find.

Unbelievable price. Last time I heard was the “A”s were depreciating wildly because they are too slow to go on the trips that owners of old cars are tending to favor. Additionally they were not designed to carry a sack of potatoes on your lap. People are much more rotund than they were when this was marketed. There was a restored one here about 9 months ago for $10,000.00, and it professionally done.

This would be a lot of fun to mildly hot-rod with ’50’s pieces. I agree if you could clean up the paint a bit (assuming it’s original; if not, I’d repaint it) it would be a great look.
