Real-Deal Blue Chip Muscle Car Collection

Deep in central Wisconsin, near the town of Portage, lies a very nice collection of muscle cars. They can be found for sale here on Craigslist and the seller says they have been collected over about twenty years. There are no prices listed in the ad, but they are being sold for “market value.” The ad says most of them have appraisals, but it sounds like the seller is realistic in the fact that the prices will be negotiable. Have a look at some of these awesome cars and thanks to Ikey H. for the tip on this great collection.

This Hugger Orange Camaro is from 1969 and is a real-deal Rally Sport Z28 4-speed. It features a houndstooth interior with a center console and gauge cluster. The most amazing part of the car is the fact that it has 18,688 documented original miles!

This 1970 Chevelle SS 396 needs a wash but looks like a really nice car. It is a real 396 4-speed numbers-matching car that has a build sheet and title history. It is a code 72 factory Cranberry Red/black stripe car with a cowl induction hood and SS hood pins. The interior is black with bucket seats and console and has gone through a full rotisserie restoration.

The car on the left is a 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. It is a real S-Code 390 4-speed car that is silver with a black interior along with a factory black hood and black tail panel. The car is apparently a two-owner vehicle and comes with a Marti Report.

The black car is a 1967 Nova SS that is a bit of a resto-mod. It features a 355 cubic inch small block V8 with an aluminum top end that puts out about 475 horsepower. The car is factory black with black interior and has bucket seats. The rally wheels and cowl hood give it a great look without being too over-the-top.

This 1970 Chevelle SS 396 is a true survivor. The Forest Green paint has been repainted once but other than that, it is all original. The interior is green and features bucket seats with a console. Apparently it has never left the county where the owner lives and was owned by the same person for over forty-five years. The seller says that the build sheet(s) should still be in the car, but haven’t been found. Overall, this is a great collection of cars and the owner says they have others that will be for sale in the future as well. What do you think about this collection? Which one is your favorite?

    Hmmmm…some great Chevys; even as a Mopar guy, I think I’d go w/ the Nova SS. Camaro and Chevelle, I like em, but they are SO overdone nowadays! GLWTA :-)

    When I see collections like this for sale, I’m usually curious about two things: how the seller decided on a plan of attack, and the storage conditions.

    In this case, after reading the Craigslist ad it sounds like the collector has decided he is no longer interested in his collection, but is in no hurry to sell and won’t take anything “less than market value” (whatever that may turn out to be). So, he is willing to spend the time and energy to get more money as opposed to turning it to an auction house. Nothing wrong with that.

    Quite a bit of info but few pics. His verbiage is fairly blunt, comes across as “don’t waste my time.” Nothing wrong with that either, I suppose.

    Looks like his storage is good, the cars for sure are not crammed together.

    Wonder what those Mustangs (plural, there is a yellow SN95 in the Craigslist pics) are doing among all those Chevrolets?

      Bob, love all your comments but I disagree with “his storage is good”….good storage building I guess, obviously a work in progress…..I have had small collections of cars like this are there is NO WAY they would be this dusty and dirty and man….that bird crap on the hood of that 69 vette is KILLING ME…..not to mention the fact that it has probably etched the SH– out of that hood. So much for the “good paint” on it. UGH !!!!! Barrett Jackson level – ok sure, but “which DAY” at B-J !! Someone who lets cars get like this….sorry those are not prime time cars.

      To the seller, I agree with your “don’t have to sell attitude” but really, some cars with NO photo. One or 2 photos …..really? Whatever.

      Based upon your cars, which are very nice and a very nice collection, you must understand the market over the past 12 months. You must also know that the market is at the beginning of a downward roll that is NOT going to come back up….in our lifetime…..Not to mention whatever this Pandemic is going to do to it..

      Too many older collectors with collections like yours, larger and nicer than yours, and smaller and NOT as nice as yours…are aging, dying off. Young people today, by and large, don’t car about these cars, most of the kids of these collectors are auctioning off the cars for the cash and my kids who are in their 20’s will probably never have classic cars as much as they love them unless I LEAVE them to them….which I hope to do. The recession bought my car collection so I could keep my company afloat. Thank the Lord it worked. Sucked to sell the cars off.

      Market is changing folks. If you want “market value” you better understand what the market value REALLY IS….. just sayin.

      But to be fair….there are STILL a lot of people out there with more money than brains or knowledge. I went to the Mecum Chicago auction last year. I was almost sick to my stomach seeing what some of these mid-lifers with too much money, no car knowledge with the half-their age girlfriend with the boob job saying “oh that one is pretty…buy it for me, ppplllleeasseee! There were many cars that sold for half what it took to restore them and there were other cars sold for twice what they were worth…..

    Hmmm. He mentions B-J auctions many times, at the end of each cars description.
    Looks like he has his prices set on the ‘auction house’ side.
    Small children will definitely change your priorities, just as the ad says.

    Love the 69 Z but limited images.

    He should just list them separately online with details and pricing .

    The don’t waste my time is a turn off for some.. including me .. i get tire kickers or low ballers are annoying but unless use an auction then it happens.
    I hope they get good homes ..

    Rally Sport Z28s will have X33 on the trim tag in 1969, NOT X77 – no exceptions – so that car is a fake RS. Half these are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. I suspect his opinion of “Barrett-Jackson ready” and Barrett-Jackson’s opinion of same are quite different.

      Educate us – Does X33 indicate the RS package, or is it required with the RS package? If you search for images of an X33 Z28, you’ll see examples with and without the RS package.

        Required with. X33 Z28s had bright trim molding on roof drippers and around wheel well openings, and the gills ahead of the rear wheels had metal trim too. X77 had none of this. Lots of non-RS X33 Zs out there, yes

        The only true way to I.D. an original RS car is with owner documentation from new or – failing that – the hole the factory punched in the firewall down behind the brake booster for the wiring/plumbing for the hideaway headlights. Same with ZL2 cowl induction option. Cars equipped with both these options (quite desirable on one car obviously) will have these two holes side by side down there.

        DR, great knowledge but I am still like CC a little confused. I am not a Z28 expert. is the X77 a Z28, but not an RS Z28?

        Meaning the RS Z28 birth code is the X33, correct?

        So unless the seller meant X33….he put in X77 which you are saying is a Z28 BUT NOT an RS….the car shown here obviously has the RS nose & hideaways, you are saying that was added to the car later along with the bright trim on the drip rails, wheel opening and the trim in front of the rear wheels, ….all added to the car at some point because an X77 could not and did NOT come that way. Right?

        In or around October, 1968 the Norwood, Ohio plant started adding these “X codes” to the trim tags of 1969 Camaros. The Los Angeles plant did not follow suit which makes LA Z28s so much harder to I.D. without a buildsheet or original bill of sale.
        Many collectors stay clear of Van Nuys (LA) built Zs for this reason. X11, X44, X66, all have their own meaning. But for Z28 collectors, X77 and X33 are the codes you want to see on your Norwood-built Z. Those two codes are used on Z28s ONLY. X77 has none of the gingerbread I listed in my other post above, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY A Z28. Only X33 Z28s have that trim and only an X33 Z28 could have the added option of being a Rally Sport.

    Is the burgundy color car with the white top the 55 Chevy? Most of vehicles with pictures have sold. I agree with Classic Steel, please list them separately with more details,PICTURES and prices. There is no description of the yellow mid to late 90’s Mustang in one photo.

    Great comments all. That green Chevelle is cool because I love green. Other than that, pretty much the same cars you’d see in any magazine/show/tv program. Great in a sea of plastic jellybeans but boring from a “classic car” standpoint.

    The minute a seller mentions “B-J”,I am OUT !
    In have bought and sold many cars there ,including setting a BJ record ,selling my LS6 4 speed Elco there for $110k ,on a Friday ,on prime TV time ,in 2017.
    These sellers have no clue how good your car must be to make it past their horrible,risky first thing in the morning, time slots.These look like 10:00 am Wednesday cars to me .The Z might make it to Thursday with a couple grand in detailing !

      Interesting comment, mainlymuscle. I know people who have sold cars at Mecum, but I don’t personally know anyone who has sold at B-J. I’m always interested in hearing the experiences of those who have sold with these “big boys.” Especially the details of what all happens before the sale itself, which I’m sure is very eye-opening.

    The “’67 Nova SS” was definitely not born an SS and doesn’t appear to be a ’67, either. If it is a ’67, then someone has put ’66 front fenders on it. If it had been born an SS, the “Super Sport” script behind the front wheel openings would be on the rear fenders, just in front of the tail lights – where the “Nova” emblems now reside. Also, SS model Novas did not have the bright belt moldings that came standard on the sport coupes. This one looks to me like it was built up from more than one donor car.

    This clown bought a bunch of restored cars, stuck them in a poor to fair building and let them sit This guy never turned a wrench in his life. But his B-J cars can be resold with out washing and scraping the bird poo off ! their just that cool !! I’m done with this fool. Later……………………JIMMY

    Looks like something out of a Super Chevy magazine. I wouldn’t kick any of them out of the driveway but if I had to choose it’s between the black souped up Nova or the 390 Mustang. Check out that silver and black, looks pretty good. I’d goof it by adding torque thrust’s, and a full true dual exhaust, kinda loud, so much for a stock classic mustang.
    The Nova is ready, it’s a driver all the way. Chevyland, good place but sometimes all too familiar.
