Really Solid: 1956 Chevrolet 150 2-Door Sedan

I guess that for any Chevrolet enthusiast, finding a virtually rust-free Tri-Five sitting in a barn would be a dream come true. That’s what happened to the owner of this 1956 Chevrolet 150, and he has now decided to sell it. You will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, it is being offered for sale with a clean title. The owner has set a price of $9,900 OBO for the Chevy. A big thanks has to go out to Barn Finder Eric for spotting this one for us.

So, just how solid is this Chevy? The shots of the undercarriage and inside the trunk indicate that there is nothing but surface corrosion. There doesn’t appear to be any rot-through. There is some rust in the rocker on the driver’s side, and it looks like there may be a few minor bubbles in the lower quarters, but that looks like it’s about all there is. The glass all looks intact, and the majority of the external trim is in good condition. However, if you are considering a full restoration, then the bumpers will probably benefit from a trip to the chrome-plater.

It looks like the interior is complete and close to original, and it is quite serviceable as it is. The headliner looks really good. The cover is torn on the driver’s seat, and the door trims are discolored, but these are problems that would be easy and relatively cheap to remedy. In fact, the beauty of the door trims on these is that if you are feeling game, these are something that you could re-trim yourself. This really isn’t a hard job….trust me.

Following on from the solid body and reasonable interior, I’m sure that you’re waiting for some bad news. Sorry to disappoint you, but bad news appears to be in short supply. Under the hood is a 327ci V8 with a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car currently doesn’t run under its own power, but the owner has poured gas down the carburetor, and the car started and ran. He said that the engine sounded good when he did this. So maybe it won’t take much to get this one up and going again.

This 1956 Chevrolet looks like a really promising project car. The fact that it appears to be so solid is an enormous positive when we’ve become so used to seeing them with major rust in the floors. Looking the car over, it looks like this could be a reasonable and enjoyable project car. It also appears that it may not take a lot to get the car back on the road again. With a solid body and a serviceable interior, the opportunity seems to be there to drive the car while you perform some of the restoration work. That sounds okay to me.

Interior looks wrong especially door panels and maybe its the flash but the firewall looks to be a different color than the body. Still I like the ’56’s.mine was a 4 door hardtop (!) back in ’72.

I like the 56 over the 55/57 and kind of a soft spot for them since I grew up riding in my old man’s 56. It was a 6 cyl with three on the tree. I learned to drive stick at 9 years old in that car.

I’m not a tri-five fan in general, but the ’56 in my opinion was the best looking of the three. The ’55 was too plain and the ’57 to gaudy.

This one ran on here a couple weeks ago as an ebay listing; https://barnfinds.com/another-tri-five-1956-chevrolet-150/ with plenty of commentary.

Supposedly sold for $9700, but then it goes to CL, and is running on ebay again with a still active (at time of this comment) listing bid to $7700 with over 7 hrs to go and short of a reserve. So…………sold or not?

Good catch! (That’s 2 out of three this morning!)Like Yogi Berra said, “It’s Deja Vu all over again.” (Except he claimed, “I never said most of the things I said.”)

Here we are again a week later and a third ebay auction for this is posted. Gotta wonder if this thing is so poor in person that buyers at the comparatively high bids are walking away when they see it in person, or if the seller is plagued by ebay flakes.
