Replacement V8: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro

Although I admit to leaning towards vehicles wearing a Blue Oval badge, I am, first and foremost, a classic car enthusiast. That means I will always respect vehicles from other manufacturers. This philosophy allows me to embrace and admire cars like this 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. It presents superbly, guaranteeing it will turn heads and receive favorable comments wherever it goes. The engine bay houses a replacement V8, with the drivetrain promising a relaxed and reliable motoring experience for its next owner. The Camaro has generated significant interest since the seller listed it here on eBay in Detroit, Michigan. Frantic bidding has pushed the price beyond the reserve to $28,100, with time remaining for both figures to climb further.

I have always admired First Generation pony cars because I believe they represent the genre at its purest. They were typically relatively light, featuring crisp styling that guaranteed they were an instant hit with buyers. Chevrolet joined the party with the Camaro in 1967, with its First Generation models remaining on sale for a mere three years. This one rolled off the line in 1969, and the seller doesn’t supply much information about its history. While many people focus on paint shades like Hugger Orange when contemplating a Camaro purchase, I have always felt it is hard to go past the Fathom Green cloaking this car’s exterior. Careful investigation confirmed the original owner ordered it in Frost Green, but it underwent a color change in 2017. The paint looks flawless, with a beautiful depth of shine and no signs of chips or marks. The panels are laser straight, and potential buyers can take comfort in the fact that this classic appears rust-free. The gaps are tight and consistent, and the chrome was refreshed when the color change was performed. The Camaro rolls on 15″ Rally wheels, adding a sense of purpose.

Describing the interior of any classic of this vintage as perfect is a high-risk strategy. However, it is fair to say that this one wouldn’t look out of place on a showroom floor. The Dark Green vinyl upholstered surfaces are in as-new condition, as are the carpet, dash, pad, and console. I suspect it has received a retrim, although the seller doesn’t mention that idea in their listing. The faux woodgrain is perfect, and there is no broken plastic or aftermarket additions. It may not be highly optioned, but the factory AM/FM radio is a welcome touch.

The seller confirms this Camaro isn’t numbers-matching, with the engine bay housing a replacement 327ci V8. The change was performed around 2015 by a previous owner, who also rebuilt or replaced many of the suspension and brake components. The V8 breathes through a relatively new Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, and a two-speed Powerglide transmission performs shifting duties. That promises a relaxed driving experience, an impression reinforced by power assistance for the steering and front disc brakes. It is disappointing that the seller supplies no specific information on how the Camaro runs or drives, but the suggestions are that it is in sound mechanical health. They appear approachable and may be willing to answer questions on that subject.

This 1969 Camaro isn’t original, but it is a classic that will undoubtedly command attention if the new owner rocks up to a Cars & Coffee. Its overall condition is superb, making it easy to understand why it has received fifty-five bids. People like what they see and are willing to vote with their wallets. I suspect the action will intensify further as the end draws near, but will you be one of the enthusiasts intent on driving it home?

Adam, nice write up, and welcome to the blue oval fan club.
Like you I appreciate classic muscle, regardless of the badge. (But I have blue blood, lol).
Love this one, sad it isn’t matching numbers, important to me.
And is just me, but is that the “Bullet” green?)

Also, the spark plug heat shields are missing. Those wire won’t last long either way.

Check the frame thoroughly, remove the pinstripes and drive it. I agree, Q-Jets have always been my favorite too!

Has the ebay ad been removed?
Can i assume a declutching fan(seen above on this car) was an option on non a/c Chevy’s in the late ’60s – even with 6 cyls?

A good friend had one of these in about 1972. I really liked in in Chrome yellow, 327/4 speed and factory AC. Rally wheels made is pop. Plain and simple. I think he paid $1500 for it!

GREAT CAR HERE! I tend to agree with a previous poster who said “ who cares about all that matching numbers baloney “. He’s right – up to a point. The point is the price. Last bidding was $28,000.00 and some change. This is about all I would pay because any more – you’re back to numbers matching. Anyway – this is a STUNNING LOOKING AWESOME car and someone is going to LOVE owning it. Period. By the way – Rochester carburetors were probably one of best carburetors ever built. They were efficient AND durable. AS FAR AS THIS CAR IS CONCERNED – sign me up. Great car and an awesome article!

I got a 69 Camaro Drag Car that was parted out. Bolted back axle in it & towed home. Actually found who bought the Dana 60 with Ladder Bars & got it back. Rebuilt 327/331ci Roller Motor out of my 62 SS Impala, put that in with a Turbo 400. Had to replace headlights, wiper motor & a bunch other stuff. Put 69 SS Hood and SS Badges. Custom 2 tone with Hockey Stripes same color as Roof. Put exhaust system on & it was a Street Car Again. Ran a Low 13 second 1/4 with Tranny Slipping, Not Bad.

With the changes, this is a sharp looking driver. Get an OEM-looking exhaust and lower the stance and I would be more interested.

I had to look closely, but that’s not a spoiler, it’s the reflection of the tree next to the car.

Just a drop dead stunning looking car.

This Camaro just sold on January 29th on the “Bring a Trailer” website for $48,500. Quite the high dollar flip. The photos are the same ones used on the previous sale, the car was located in Florida.
