Everything seemed right in the muscle car world when Dodge introduced the second-generation Charger in 1968, but by the time the B-Body got its next redesign in 1971, that market was quickly shifting from high-performance offerings to lower-powered cars insurance companies weren’t as afraid to write policies for. Tightening emission requirements and safety regulations didn’t help either, but thankfully, the Charger soldiered on as best it could until the third-gen run ended in 1974. This 1972 Charger Rallye here on Craigslist could use some work, but it seems like a decent driver already, so the buyer will have to decide how to proceed. It’s located in Seattle, Washington, and is priced at $16,500. Nice Mopar find, Curvette, and thanks for the tip!

Sadly, one of the fan favorites wouldn’t return to the Charger lineup in ’72, as the beloved muscular R/T made its last appearance for the 20th Century in 1971. Taking its place was a more-cosmetic-than-not package known as the Rallye, which included faux door louvers, a bulging hood, and some blacked-out areas on the front and rear. The seller describes his Charger Rallye as unrestored, and while taking it to a higher level immediately isn’t necessarily a bad idea, it still looks decent enough outside to be an attention-getting driver.

The Rallye package didn’t automatically include anything special under the hood, though it did eliminate the Slant-6 as an engine option. The 318 V8 was entry-level here, and that’s what powers this one, with the seller claiming the rumble sounds like a big block thanks to the Flowmaster exhaust system. It’s said to run great, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the buyer decides to install something larger and more satisfying later. Another upgrade the Rallye provided was a heavy-duty suspension, and the owner confirms the factory sway bars are still intact.

Interior photos are almost non-existent, as this small section of the left front floorboard is the only peek we get from inside. The seller mentions that the front buckets and rear seat need repair, but reports that the dash pad is in excellent condition and that all gauges work. The floors and trunk pan are said to be solid, so hopefully the rails will also be strong enough not to need any attention. I can easily understand the desire to transform this 1972 Dodge Charger Rallye into a higher performer than it was born, but I also like the idea of letting it remain a fun driver for now before doing anything, mechanically or cosmetically. What would you do here?

Needs more pictures of the inside and undercarriage. Has original am/fm radio . Seems like a ok deal here maybe 10-12K.
Would much rather have this than 75 RR a few pictures back. Always loved the lines of this Charger 😁
Price is definitely better too. If no rust or at least very little looks like a good deal for someone.
I feel like putting it on CRAIGLIST means you can list it for 5-10k more than it should get! I watched an auction video earlier and a 73 vette convertible with a 350 sold for 15k!
Everything they showed i would have bought as it all seemed WAY WAY under prices ive seen in ads lately
