Runs and Drives: 1973 AMC AMX

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1973 AMC AMX is described as a running / driving project car that comes with a host of spare parts needed for completing its restoration. The seller notes that the AMX drives quite well, with a 401 V8 paired to an automatic transmission. The drivetrain is said to be quite healthy but it does need rust repair in the floors; fortunately, the replacement panels are included. Find the AMX here on eBay with one bid to $3,500 and no reserve.

The interior is so-so, with bucket seats showing split seams on the driver and passenger sides, and a general layer of filth coating the dash and door panels. This would likely prove pretty easy to clean, but in its current state, it looks like the AMX was stored in the barn with the windows open. The seller notes the floorboards need extensive rust repair in both the front and rear.

The 401 supposedly received a decent amount of attention before it was retired to the barn, including new headers, exhaust, and a complete tune-up. Other work completed prior to its extended sleep included new tires, brakes, fuel lines, gas tank, and brake lines. Numerous spares are included with the auction, including an extra transmission and spare hood assembly.

And as a friendly reminder, we still have for sale a solid 1969 AMC Javelin SST, sporting the arguably better looks of the earlier model. This car is part of the large Georgia collection we’ve listed here as a Barn Finds Exclusive. The Javelin comes with its engine removed but the original 343 is included with the sale. Reach me via the form on the listing for more info.

Looks to be all the parts are there!! The plywood on the passenger side leads me to believe there’s no floor there!! Minor problem when buying in this condition!! There will be plenty of work to perform but at least it’s a drivable car and with no reserve it could be bought right hopefully!!!

401 and cool body style, but finding restoration parts can be a challenge. Would really have to be bought right for it to make sense.

The rims and that cone steering wheel are a dead giveaway when this AMX was slightly customized…like the style and 401 engine.

That little steering wheel is for driving with handcuffs on…

Drive it like you stole it because you really DID steal it?

Yeah, right! Got to admit the car itself looks a bit “hoodish”.
Handcuffs, haven’t heard that one in a while. Ha ha!

Everything on eBay should be ‘no reserve’ that way everything sells and it goes for what someone will pay for it
I have a lot of respect for someone who throws it out there and they get what they get!
I’ll be putting my truck up soon and it too will be no reserve

You say that because you didn’t get raped on an auction (yet). I had a custom chopper that won first place trophies and had $21,000 in it. I put it on Ebay without a reserve starting at $5,000. It was bid up to $7200 by the night the auction was ending with 17 watchers. The football game was also on that night so I guess all the watchers were watching the game and it sold for $7200. I was offered $14k for it locally and turned it down before the auction. You never know what will happen. You are better off setting a buy it now price with make an offer.
