Other than a few spelling tests, my teeth, and a Strombecker Monza race set, I don’t know if I still have anything that I’m the original owner of from 1969. The seller has this 1969 Chevrolet Caprice sedan listed here on eBay in Kings Park, New York and they’re asking $15,500 or you can make an offer. Thanks to Larry D for sending in this tip!
This 1969 Chevrolet Caprice has reportedly just had one owner, with their name still on the title, and it’s all original. How crazy is that? It’s still wearing its original paint and the original interior makes me weep like a child it’s so beautiful. And, it has power windows. I may need a minute. Ok, I’m back. Most people only want two-door cars – even though they insist on commuting with a four-door pickup – but for a “luxury” model like this Caprice, make mine a four-door.
The first-generation Caprice was made from 1965 for the 1966 model year until 1970. My dad had a couple of Bel Airs in this era for company cars, and a Caprice would have been almost embarrassingly extravagant for us. The seller says that this car was owned by one person and it has just 61,916 miles. They have included a webpage with a few dozen photos here. Also, several YouTube videos including this cold-start video showing the windows and lights all working.
The colors, the perfect dash, those seats – man, beautiful! Where you would normally have some wear and tear as you slide across the driver’s side of the bench seat covered in this nice brocade fabric, it looks almost like new. The back seat basically does look new and the trunk also appears to be as clean as any 53-year-old car’s trunk has a right to be. There is one problem area and that’s the rear of the vinyl top that has started peeling away, hopefully that could be fixed. They have also included many underside photos. Those photos show some surface corrosion on portions of the frame and fasteners underneath, but they say that there is no rust, which I’m guessing means rust-through on any body panels?
The engine in this Caprice is Chevrolet’s 396 big-block V8 and the YouTube video shows it starting and running. It sounded a little throatier than I thought it would but I could be wrong. The AC still has the freon but needs a compressor clutch, according to the seller, and it has new brakes including a master cylinder. The tires are dry-rotted so you’d want to replace those before driving this one home. Any thoughts on this Caprice? This is my favorite era for Chevrolet, what’s yours?
Those tires may be original to the car. In that time frame (69-70) they had those twin stripe white walls. That’s pretty amazing if they are original.
I doubt it. Those dual-stripe tires I believe are being re-popped today. Same for the ones Cadillacs came with during this same timeframe.
you are correct. I bought a new ’69 sport coup with 427 cu 4 gear and it came with one stripe ww tires.
The twin-stripe whites were used in 70 & 71. Why? Because GM wanted them, and since they bought about half the new tires produced, what they wanted, they got. The were NOT used on 69s originally, and in 72, it was back to one stripe.
I just reviewed 3 separate 69 Chevrolet brochure pages with multiple Caprice images having dual stripe whitewall tires. I wasn’t able to convert the images on my phone to jpg or gif for attaching to this reply.
My grandmother had a 69 Caprice coupe purchased new and it had dual stripe whitewall tires from day one to the best of my recollection.
1969 Chevys are my favorites!
I had this exact car, white with blue vinyl top & interior.
Holy moly, it sucked gasoline in a major way.
Check out the videos the seller has of other cars he either owns or helps sell. The Caprice is super nice. These years of Caprice had awkward styling that made them not super desirable back when they were just used cars in the 80’s. This one is amazing.
I would take this Caprice over the black, lowered one in another listing any day! I agree that these “luxury” models are better as 4-doors, especially when they are hardtops like this one.
Been on sale for awhile now. Seems like a good price for an original. Maybe because it’s 4 doors. But 60s impala look good in that configuration.
I had an Impala Custom Coupe, that year, those colors, but with a 350 engine and green vinyl buckets/console interior. Man, that was my favorite car ever! It launched a rod bearing out through the oil pan after about 6 months. Wish I could have kept it, but I was too poor.
I would make it the first electric Low Rider.
Love it…those wheel covers, Comfortron (always love the name) and power windows. Concealed headlights would make it very cool.
Anyone else notice it has 5 seatbelts up front?
That would be correct. The driver and front passenger had separate lap and shoulder belts, with a connecting buckle for each. The fifth buckle would be for the middle passenger’s lap belt.
Now that you mention this I seem to vaguely remember seeing this before. I guess I must have never worn or seen anyone wear seatbelts in a car from this era. I would have likely been sleeping in the package tray or standing up in the back seat lol.
Did someone really think that those rusty, old license plates would look good on this, OR that the engine call-out on the front fender (396) should be attached with slotted wood screws?????
This would be a nice car if it was a 2 door.
My first car at 16, was the ’69 Caprice my mom sold me, for $350!
Was Navy blue with blue interior, and blue vinyl top. Had the 350 V8 though.
I really liked the giant opening on either side, when ya rolled all 4 Windows down.
It looks like the seller has lowered the price to $13,999!
