This 1967 Jeepster Commando has been refreshed but not restored, with enough improvements made that should improve its reliability and resistance to rust. The Commando was spotted by Barn Finds reader Ikey and looks like a solid buy at just $6K OBO. The seller notes the Buick V6 and three-speed manual are working well and that the Jeepester has been upgraded to an electric fuel pump. Find it here on craigslist in the Denver area.
This Jeepster is not unlike the two I spotted when touring the large Georgia collection we’re helping to market on the site. Those Jeepsters were in far rougher condition and in need of restoration, but this one looks like it could survive nicely in its current condition. The seller notes that the brakes and tires are in good condition and that the battery is new.
Inside, the front seats have been recovered and new metal has been welded into the floors in common trouble spots, including in front of the front seats and behind the rear seat. No mention is made of the hard top but I’m assuming it’s included. The Commando is said to come with a clean title and 108,000 miles, presumably most of which were in the high desert given its largely dry condition.
I believe the engine is known as a “Dauntless” V6, given the seller refers to the six-cylinder mill as a Buick motor. What a great name for a torquey truck engine – the Dauntless. These are robust motors and parts availability shouldn’t be too intimidating. For the money, it looks like there’s lots of life left in this Jeepster and not much for the next owner to worry about provided your focus is just driving it and not restoring it to new.
Yes, the 225s are called Dauntless. Some were even fire, some odd. I live in 303 and could peek at it for anyone.
Has climate change caused Denver to be on the edge of the ocean? :)
Another one I wish was closer to SoCal…..perfect for the mountains.
One question.can you install an overdrive in this to facilitate better highway mileage and lower engine rpms?
Anyone know?
With the rust around the rear hardtop a thorough looksee is called for, Dave….
Another score for Ikey!
Advance Adapters make overdrives for them. 25 % overdrive I think.
Odd fires did come out till 75-76
Should have said even fires did not come till 75-76 231ci lol
Like these….hard to find a good base one……
Ya, don’t know a ton about the ood/even fire thing except one of our customers has a ‘68-ish 223 even in his ‘53 MJ.
