Rusty Project: 1946 Willys Jeep CJ2A

1946 Willys Jeep CJ2A

This old Jeep is listed on craigslist in Sultan, WA for only $1500. The drivetrain is original and the engine is said to run well. The owner has had this sine 1976. Thanks to Andrew N. for finding this and sharing it with us.

It looks like a mostly original and complete, if not beat up old jeep. It looks like a good candidate to complete and have some fun with except for the rust.

The problem is, it seems everywhere you look there is either rust or a view of the floor below. This might be too far gone for a car, but would it make sense to replace the body? New bodies sell for about $2,500. If the frame isn’t too bad, and the running gear is OK, would it be worth the work and money to restore this? The electrical system is simple enough. One wouldn’t be looking for a show car finish, so perhaps just prime and paint should work. Or, can you just buy a nice vintage jeep for less money? Is this just a parts Jeep or is it worth saving?

Even with the rust I dont see this lasting long at $1500. The seller has owned it 40 years and its sat inside for the last 10. This is close to me and oh so cheap but I really cant take on another project even though at $1500 its really, really hard to pass up. How many 70 y/o complete vehicles can be had for such little money. I hope it does sell soon because every time i search CL for years 1930-1980 it tempts me with its crusty, rusty goodness

Love it. If it were near me I would be consulting with a divorce attorney right now.

One of those 60s customizers had a jeep like this, royal purple with wide whites, it was his shop jeep. Looked good, was on HAMB few years back.
