Six Years Later: 1984 AMC Eagle 4WD Sedan

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

We’ve only seen a couple of 1984 AMC Eagles here on Barn Finds over the years, and one that may be this exact car, written by our own Adam Clarke back when the world seemed somewhat sane (2019). And, one written by Aaron Toth back in March, back when things seemed somewhat sane… er… wait a minute. Let’s check out this example, which is now posted here on craigslist in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they’re asking $5,700. Here is the original listing.

From no snow to snow, that’s how it works in Minnesota. We don’t know how long this car has been for sale by the current owner, but it’s shown in a variety of locations and weather. This is definitely the same Eagle Sedan that Adam wrote about, it’s hard to miss those two-tone wheels.

Not to mention, the Amoco sticker on the left portion of the rear bumper. The former seller was asking $5,500 when it was for sale back in 2019, and it’s basically that same price now. I wish everything else had stayed the same over the last six years. AMC made the Eagle in a variety of body styles from 1979 for the 1980 model year until the end of 1988, at which point only the wagon was available, and it was offered by AMC’s new owner, Chrysler.

There are only two interior photos, which is pretty disappointing, but it looks good in those two photos. They both show the front seating area only, so we don’t see the back seat or the trunk, and there are no underside photos. The sedan is a fairly rare body style for this, as most of them seem to be wagons.

A couple of hours spent under the hood could have made a big difference, and it just appears to be dirty, so it wouldn’t be a big chore to clean it up a bit. This is AMC’s 258-cu.in. OHC OHV inline-six with 115 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque when new. Backed by a TorqueFlite automatic and selectable 4WD system sending power to all four wheels when needed, this one has had a lot of maintenance done, so please click on the craigslist link to read everything that’s been completed to make this one a great driver. Any thoughts on this Eagle Sedan six years later at basically the same price? That’s a win in my book.

Sorry about that typo, thanks for catching that.
And thanks to NHDave for realizing how easy it is to do that!

Is that a Bradley GT resting awkwardly on its side in the garage?

I’ve owned four Eagles over the years. Three of them were the smaller SX/4 Eagle based on the Spirit as opposed to the Concord. And I had one that was the 1987 wagon in the same color as this sedan.
This is local to me, and I chatted with the seller. Was hoping he’d be open to a trade since I have an ’87 Fiero GT that I’d have to sell before buying his Eagle, but he didn’t bite on the trade possibility. I hope if finds a good owner.

Body style of this Eagle is almost the same as the ’79 Concord I had and it’s the same Burgundy color. Only kept the Concord 2 years, there was a strange “tinking” (yes, the spelling is correct) noise in the engine that neither of the 2 AMC dealers in Orlando could figure out. We really liked the car, but my wife drove over 25 miles one way to her job on a 2 lane country road with very few houses and usually dark when she came home. I was afraid something might go haywire in that engine and leave her stranded. NO cellphones in 1981! Traded it for a somewhat bigger and more dependable ’81 Granada…
