Small-Block Project: 1967 Dodge Dart GT

The Dodge Dart GT, produced between 1963 and 1969, was a sporty version of the Mopar compact. It was offered with either a Slant-Six engine or a small-block V8. Later, the GTS arrived with a 383 cubic inch engine for maximum performance. This 1967 GT has a 273 V8 and has been sitting for 20 years in dry storage (which hasn’t kept the corrosion away). Located in Attica, New York, this crusty project is available here on craigslist for $6,500. “Zappenduster” has brought us yet another cool tip.

Dart GT and GTS models in 1969 would sort of be replaced by the Dart Swinger and Swinger 340. But two years earlier, the GT and GTS were popular choices with more than 38,000 deliveries in both hardtop and convertible versions. More of them may have come with the 225 CI Slant-Six, but the 273 was optional and was chosen for this car. It was soon replaced on the options list by the venerable 318 V8.

The seller makes something of a big deal of this being a factory A/C car. But I don’t see a compressor. As a GT, it has bucket seats and a console with a floor-shifted TorqueFlite automatic transmission. We don’t know where the two-decade dry storage was, but a barn would be likely, as rust has begun to take over the rear quarter panels. When the Dodge last ran, it had clocked just over 100,000 miles. Unfortunately, photos of the entire automobile are not provided.

Color-wise, the paint used to be yellow but faded to nearly white. And the tan interior is going to need work, beginning with the driver’s seat. Otherwise, this car is advertised as being “pretty solid” and is likely worth restoring since it’s a V8 GT. The seller even offers to facilitate delivery, although there are probably limitations as to distance. And as the seller says, “you either want it, or you don’t.”
