Snowbank Find: 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback

When the Ford Mustang was introduced in mid-1964, the fastback body style was not yet available. That didn’t happen until the Fall of 1964 when full-scale 1965 model production got underway. This rusty fastback looks to have been sitting outside for some time and has been treated to at least one covering of snow. Located in Berwick, Pennsylvania, this old Ford is available here on eBay where the unmet starting bid is $15,000. There is also a reserve somewhere north of there.

Ford built more than 559,000 Mustangs for 1965, not including 121,000 of the so-called 1964 ½ models that led the way. The fastback saw the production of 77,000 units in its first year of which just seven percent were the “luxury” model with fancy upholstery. We don’t know which is the seller’s car, but the olive-green paint doesn’t come across as an original color and a layer of rust has beset the car’s lower extremities. The front fenders, doors, and rear quarter panels have fallen victim to it and the front bumper is so rusty it has fallen off on one side. The trunk lid has been replaced with one painted red.

The fender crest says this Mustang has a 289 cubic inch V8 and the seller tells us it’s paired with an automatic transmission at 25,000 miles. But no engine compartment photos are provided, nor are any offered of the passenger compartment. This lack of information and basic photos may be the reason no one has started the bidding process on this once popular pony car.

The reason that there are no bids is because he’s got a reserve of 15k+ and this thing is wasted.

I think the seller made a typo mistake,,,, that 15,000 should be 1500 if he expects any action. I can find these in Michigan for less than that.

That’s not a snow bank lol. That looks like the result of flurries! Ya gotta see what we get in Wisconsin!
It’s a fastback. I don’t necessarily see the appeal, but someone will. A crispy, crunchy Rustang. No thank you.

As so many say….and I do not know why people spend so much to do so despite my being a Mustang guy….the buyer of this will likely be a high dollar spender who will buy this for the VIN tag and the interior parts in order to go and buy a new repop body and frame plus drivetrain and transfer the title and einterior to all the “new” parts. A whole other stratosphere of owners and budgets then most of us will ever be in.

I hope this seller is honest in reply to questions ?
can I see some pics of the trunk floor above the rear shackles?
front of the rear spring mount?
    floor pan pictures?
front frame rail picture where the f bumper brackets bolt on?
lower part of shock tower pic from inside the engine bay?
    Is the engine stuck?
What are the factory colors>> also a pic of door plate would be nice?
    Thank you.

$15k now and reserve still not met. No engine or interior photos, what a pile.

I don’t understand what everyone’s so upset about. The seller is clearly extremely accommodating, thorough and generous. There’s a buy it now of only 21 grand, so you can just buy it out right and not have to deal with the flurry of bidders that will surely create a massive bidding war. They also provide five photos of he car, so you know exactly what you’re getting- nothing hidden and no surprises. I’m sold.

I’ll have to delve into my crack money funds to get it though.

Maybe if he holds onto it for another 10 years, he might might get 5k for it. Hard pass for a snow covered rust bucket.
