Solid Blank Canvas: 1930 Ford Model A Roadster

This 1930 Ford Model A Roadster might be missing some pieces, but it has a lot going for it as a potential project car. Whether the next owner is looking for a car that is suitable for a sympathetic restoration, or something that would make a solid base for a street rod or custom, these options would all be available with this old Ford. Located in Cambridge, Minnesota, you will find the Ford listed for sale here on eBay. The owner has set a BIN price of $9,500 for the car, although there is the option to make an offer.

This Model A has all of the hallmarks of a stalled project, and it appears as though a large portion of the work that has been performed has been to ensure that the body is solid and clean. The body itself looks good, with only some form of blemish on the trunk lid to spoil the clean look. The owner also does say that the car is solid, which would tend to indicate that the frame is also in decent condition. While the front bumper is missing and the rear one will need a trip to the plater, the rest of the trim and glass looks to be in very nice condition. So as the foundation for a project car, this is looking pretty encouraging.

For the next owner, the interior of the Ford is pretty much a blank canvas. The seat looks like it could clean up okay, but the wheel is going to either require restoration, or replacement. There is precious little else inside the car, so items such as door trims and gauges will need to be sourced by the new owner. They could choose to try to match the seat trim, or they could also start again from scratch.

I’m pretty sure that you won’t be shocked to learn that the car doesn’t run, but it is is a roller with an engine and transmission. The state of those mechanical components that are fitted to the car is very much an unknown quantity, and I really don’t like the sight of all of those exposed openings on the engine, because it can allow foreign objects (and critters) to find their way into places that they don’t belong. Still, in a restoration of this type, whipping the cylinder head and sump off an engine to give it a check is no big deal. Of course, if the next owner is considering a street rod project, then all of this may well be a moot point anyway.

So now we get to the point where the next owner will need to decide just what they would do with this car. Personally, while I love to see cars nicely restored to their original condition, in my mind’s eye, I can see this car wearing a cool paint job, and a tasteful custom interior. I can hear the rumble of a nicely warmed flathead V8 coming from under the hood and some classy but tough wheels at each corner. I would be so tempted to follow that path if I bought the old Ford, but which way would you go?

I like these roadsters as full bodied street rods so much I’m going to stay out of this conversation….

This looks easy to bring back as a stock Model A, so as much as I like rods, that’s the direction I’d go.

Good write up, Adam, this beauty with a v8 flatmotor would do this nicely, maybe warm up the flatty a little, and leave the outside as is. maybe steel wheels. Would make a great traditional (notice I didn’t say old school) Roadster. Or possibly a mild OHV V8. Anyhoo, good luck to the new owner. One cool A bone.

I’ll wager this old Ford will probably be hot rodded. It’s a nice one to start out with, as said in the description it’s pretty much a blank canvas. I just hope it ends up with a Ford motor, maybe a nicely set up small block with a manual trans. Upgrade the chassis and brakes but don’t go the “patina” route; paint it.

Keep it all flathead Ford but add four more cylinders please. And paint it sea foam green with beige leather interior…

I would make it a hot rod with a nice 289 with some goodies to make it run really good maybe a Ford flathead. It’s a blank canvas so have fun.

I am in shock, usually when a car like this is posted, the majority say it is nothing short of jail time to do anything , but RESTORE it. I am pleasently surprised that there aren’t all those comments this time.
