By 1965, every General Motors division except for Cadillac had a mid-size muscle car. At Buick, it was the Gran Sport (or GS), which was based on the Skylark intermediate. Because it was a Buick, the GS was the fanciest of GM’s performance offerings. Production almost reached 20,000 units in 1967, with about 11% of those being convertibles like the seller’s car. Said to be original with 60,000 miles, this Buick is in Oak Park, Illinois, and is available here on craigslist for $45,000. Another tip brought to us by Jack M.!

The Skylark/GS models were treated to fresh styling in 1966, so the 1967 models were little changed. The cars were offered with 340 and 400 cubic inch V8 engines, with the latter being the largest that GM would allow in mid-sized cars at the time. It was rated at 325 hp and had plenty of torque. Just 1,628 GS400 Buick convertibles were built in 1967 with an automatic transmission. This car is one of them.

We’re told this drop-top is original, though it does have new brakes and “other mechanical investments”. It also has the plastic air cleaner that looks like something from Star Wars, which was only offered for one year. The seller only provides three photos, which are hardly enough to do the car justice. And also, the seller doesn’t want to hear from buyers far away, so I guess it leaves you Left Coast folks, out. Good thing the seller is in no hurry to sell.

Built in Flint MI Buick city !! Well done
A real looker, that has some go too!
for somebody who wants the right buyer he did not provide a lot of pics or info but wants a pile of cash for it. good luck
Really nice GS which appears to be as original as the Seller says. However, only an in-person inspection will tell for sure. Asking price is still a bit high in today’s market, despite the originality and low production. Buick’s performance models just don’t command the same value as comparable models from the other major brands.
Love these GS cars. 🏁
Beautiful car.
3 photos, overpriced, and shooing away potential purchasers. Perfect combination to insure that the car doesn’t sell.
My favorite of the pre-68 A-bodies. Nice looker. He knows what he has (I guess). Price is close to top dollar and not wanting to deal with prospective distant buyers suggests he won’t come down much.
Very nice, just not $45k nice.
Not far from me, but too spendy for me. But I’d be willing to inspect it for someone.
Hans,
By all means, check it out and report back.
With those twin “nacelles” poking out the side, I’m thinking that air cleaner looks more like the USS Defiant from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. (I am SUCH a nerd.)
Nice Gran Sport. Wishful thinking on price… must have had Mecum or Barrett hyphen Jackson on in the background…
Crap Craigslist ad and an arrogant seller. Nice.
